A MUM-OF-TWO was today named as one of two Merseyside women killed by swine flu.

Kay Burdett, 32, from Old Swan, passed away on Friday at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

And health chiefs confirmed a 29-year-old woman, believed to be from Halewood, also died as a result of the illness at Whiston Hospital.

Ms Burdett’s sister, Victoria, today paid tribute to her “bubbly and loving” sister.

She told the ECHO: “We are distraught, the whole family.

“My mum is finding it hard to come to terms with, she was so young.

“Kay was such a fun, bubbly person, she was so loving and everyone who knew her will miss her. It is very scary that she has died from swine flu, we can’t understand it.”

Ms Burdett had been in the Royal for three months because of her asthma symptoms, but was discharged on Monday, December 6.

Re: Two Liverpool women die from swine flu

A 29-YEAR-OLD woman has died at Whiston Hospital from swine flu, it has been confirmed.

The victim, believed to be from Halewood, is one of two Merseyside women to have died from the illness in the past week.

In a statement St Helens and Knowsley Health Authority said: ?We can confirm that a 29-year-old female died from complications from confirmed H1N1 infection.

"We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to her family.

"While in the vast majority of people, the flu illness can be a short though unpleasant illness, for some it can be very serious.

?If you are in a risk group, which includes pregnant women, then we would urge you to visit your GP surgery and get the vaccination as soon as possible.

?It is not too late to get vaccinated for your protection and that of your family."

A 32-year-old from Old Swan, Liverpool, died from swine flu at the Royal Liverpool Hospital last Friday.

Re: Two Liverpool women die from swine flu

There is no indication in this report as to whether this individual was vaccinated, either this year or last.

However a 3 month stay in hospital due to asthma would indicate that she was a severe asthmatic, and therefore certainly in the priority group for vaccination last year. and this one, especially as she was in hospital for so long. Hopefully some clarification on this case will be forthcoming.
