Two confirmed swine flu cases at Gettysburg College
More than 40 others are sick and await test results.

Tests have confirmed that two Gettysburg College students who last week experienced flu-like symptoms were suffering from the effects of the H1N1 virus, better known as swine flu.
And as of Wednesday morning, 42 students at the school were sick with a flu-like illness and were awaiting results from H1N1 tests, said Gettysburg College director of media relations Kendra Martin.
Martin said the students who are now sick are being treated with Tamiflu and advised to rest. College officials, she said, don't yet have reason to believe the students are sick with H1N1. It takes several days for H1N1 test results to come back, she said.
On its Web page www.gettysburg.edu/flu, the college says several students who have fallen ill have chosen to go home and the college has supported their decisions. Those who remain on campus have been following the self-isolation guidelines provided by the health service and residence life departments. The two students who had contracted swine flu were sent home last week before their H1N1 test results came back positive for the virus, Martin said. The students, who weren't identified by college personnel, recuperated and returned to campus before their test results were returned.
Those students also were treated with Tamiflu, she said.
