Twin Cities nursing home has cluster of flu cases

Three cases of flu at a Twin Cities nursing home may -- or may not -- signal an unexpectedly early start to the 2010-2011 influenza season, state health officials said Tuesday.

In a normal summer, little clusters of flu cases often turn up at nursing homes or day care centers. But they generally subside in early fall. Then, in late fall or early winter, the first cases of the seasonal flu start popping up.
So a cluster of three cases in September is unusual, Ehresmann said. But health officials don't know whether they are later summer cases or the start of an early flu season.
