More than 50 hospitalized, one dead

Times News

Dharmanagar, July 19: Malaria has spread its cold paw on the North district as more than fifty people down with malaria fever lie admitted in PHC and sub-divisional hospital with one casualty already in the list. The Primary Health Centers of the locality are failing to manage the load of patients streaming in every now and then; scanty medical stock and raging monsoon has added to the woes of the ailing families.Local sources informed that the situation is most acute at the Jalebasa Primary Health Center under Panisagar Block. The PHC alone houses more than 40 malaria patients while an infant namely DK Reang (02), son of Namendra Reang, resident of Pekucherra Gaon Sabha has died yesterday itself out of malaria fever in the said PHC. The PHC is presently running on a single doctor presently. The escalating condition has compelled the THS to post two doctors from Agartala Government Medical College in the area on emergency basis. The situation has brought up a very startling fact which says that not even a single health camp was organized in several of the sub-division during last one year.Instances are rife where patients haven?t been admitted in hospital for shortage of room. Infrastructure crisis has raised severe questions on the other hand about the proper implementation of NRHM funds. The areas of Brajendranagar, Kadamtala, Shanicherra, Bagabasa et al have been stated to be most critical. Nearly every family in Panisagar block area has got a malaria patient while the average infected count is higher in Madhabpur, Jalebasa, Bhallukcherra, Pekucherra et al areas. The patients show the infection ratio to be excessively higher in children with Shimum Reang (9 months), Majid Kumar Reang (3), Manindra Reang (2), Surendra Reang (5) to name a few. The doctors have termed the fever as viral fever, however.MLA Biswabandhu Sen and local Congress leaders have criticized the incident as total failure of the state health service.
