Agartala, Apr 19 (PTI) Two children died and 20 others fell ill as diarrhoea spread in tribal hamlets of Tripura's Dhalai district due to water contamination, health officials said today. "Diarrhoea outbreak was reported from tribal hamlets like Campara, Gunadhanpara and Karnamonipara in Dhalai district since last week. Summer diseases claim six lives in Tripura
Agartala, April 23: The Tripura Government has sent a special medical team to tribal-dominated eastern villages of Dhalai district following the death of six persons including children in the past fortnight in water borne diseases and malaria. The total death toll of such diseases in the district in past three months was recorded at 14.
Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty said the health department had been organising medical camps regularly in the remote villages across the state at the beginning of summer and a special medical team with medicines left for the affected areas. He claimed that the situation was under control and the department had taken steps to contain the spread of the diseases and all other basic amenities including potable water were provided.
According to report, as many as 57 people belonging to tribal communities reported gastro-complication in Kulai and Ganganagar primary health centre and diarrhea and malaria were diagnosed among the adults, while malnutrition was identified among the children. The villagers were consuming natural water from streams, despite being provided with safe drinking water in few pockets and every year, they suffer from water-borne diseases, health officials said.
