HEALTH MINISTER Terrence Deyalsingh has revealed that a resident of South Trinidad died recently from dengue fever – the country's first confirmed fatality from the virus since 2017. He also revealed that there have been 126 lab-confirmed cases of the disease so far this year in TT.

As of April 30, 7.6 million cases of dengue have been reported globally, with 3,000 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)...

Tobago has recorded its first lab-confirmed case of Dengue fever.

In a media release on Sunday night, the island’s Division of Health noted that the suspected case was flagged by relevant personnel by the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA), after which a sample was taken and sent for testing.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago health authorities Friday said the country has recorded more than 200 cases of dengue since the start of the year, but downplayed suggestions of an outbreak of the virus.

Technical Director, Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, Dr Avery Hinds, told a news conference that “at this point pending the next batch update from the laboratory, we are still at 229 confirmed cases and two confirmed deaths.

“We do not have hospitalisation figures. We just know that the hospitals have indicated that they are seeing more of these cases, we have taken note of that and this is part of the reason we are encouraging the population to take note of the symptoms, to be aware of the warning signs in particular and to seek care when they are feeling unwell.”​...

HEALTH Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says the majority of dengue cases are concentrated in the southern and central counties of Trinidad, specifically Counties Victoria, St Patrick, and Caroni. He said available resources are being concentrated in those areas.

Speaking at a media conference on July 19 at the Ministry’s Head Office, Queen’s Park East, Deyalsingh said as of July 19, there were 392 laboratory-confirmed cases and three deaths.

The Health Minister said Penal/Debe Regional Corporation principal medical and health officer Dr Oumatee Arjoon-Singh, Siparia Borough Corporation public health administrator Farzan Rasul, and Princes Town Regional Corporation principal medical and health officer Dr Olalekan Jumat agreed that source reduction at the home level, not spraying, was the way to go.​..

In an update by the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection Secretary, Dr Faith B Yisrael said the island has not had any dengue fatalities.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed another dengue death in the country, taking the number of those who have succumbed to the virus this year to nine.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry also confirmed there are 911 laboratory-confirmed cases of dengue fever. The number of lab-confirmed cases jumped by 86 cases from the ministry's last statement six days ago.

On Wednesday, Guardian Media reported that 40-year-old father of five, Kern Sargeant, had died after being afflicted with symptoms of dengue fever. Before that, eight-year-old Nelisha Narine, from Princes Town, who was a Standard One student at North Trace Government Primary School, died from dengue.

The Ministry of Health has reported 1,315 confirmed cases of dengue fever across the country, with 13 fatalities linked to the mosquito-borne disease for 2024 thus far.

THE Ministry of Health has identified the counties of Victoria, Caroni, St Georges East and St Patrick as the areas with the highest confirmed cases of dengue, at a press briefing on September 13 in which the ministry updated the nation on the efforts to limit the spread of the fever.

Among the four counties, Victoria was identified as being the area for 41 per cent of the confirmed cases. Caroni had 14.4 per cent of the cases, St Georges East had 13.6 per cent of the cases, St Patrick had 12.3 per cent of the cases.

“While other counties have cases and we do encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions, these areas are where the majority of cases have been confirmed to date,” said Dr Avery Hinds while presenting on September 13 at the ministry’s offices on Queen’s Park East.

These figures, the ministry said, was out of a total of 1,387 confirmed cases for the year so far. Hinds said the cases for the year started small with 17 in January, but peaked in July at 652. Last month, the ministry counted 424 confirmed cases.​..
