Tracking World Wide Virulence of Swine Flu

Re: Post cytokine storm / organ failure / cyanosis related stories here......

Re: Post cytokine storm / organ failure / cyanosis related stories here......

Yeah, I understand.

I get hot under the collar too and I also am prepared.

This is an important thread because it highlights the fact that there are a lot of victims of this flu in the US and elsewhere that have suffered multi-organ failure.

This is NOT SOMETHING SEEN WITH SEASONAL FLU. And that is why it is important.

A number of cases that have suffered this extreme condition have been reported on this thread but not nearly all. There have been many more both in the US and many many more in Mexico.

This is a key aspect of this pandemic and one that needs much greater investigation.

Keep investigating this. There is much more to discover.

Thanks Doc...
And yeah, I admit the frustration is pretty strong. For example.... I just finished doing a ton of search combinations on Google & Yahoo. There's nothing! I mean - I can find all sorts of stories of deaths! Deaths Deaths and more Deaths - but NO details. I am a very calm and rational person.... but it is becoming almost impossible to not jump to conspiracy theory / coverup conclusions.

And normally I would immediately blame the news media..... but it's more a situation that the information of details is being clamped down on hard by medical authorities.

I'd give anything for some physicians and nurses to start doing their thing out their - becoming junior cub-reporters, asking around, slipping public some details about what is going on in the Hospital rooms and morgues!

I know you are out there :) If the news media and officials won't tell the people what is going on - then it falls to the footsoldiers.

What about it? Who's got the scoop?

H1N1-linked death toll rises
S.L. County » Six have died in region as hospitals report being inundated with patients with flu-like symptoms.
By Heather May
The Salt Lake Tribune
Updated: 06/16/2009 06:13:47 PM MDT

Six Salt Lake County residents now have died after testing positive for H1N1 swine flu and nearly 100 have been hospitalized with the novel strain.

The past four deaths have occurred in the past week, as hospitals in the valley report being inundated with patients with flu-like symptoms and doctors race to understand more about the new virus.

Nathan Dean, chief of pulmonary critical care at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray and LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, said about one patient a day has been admitted to the intensive care unit for the past three weeks.

Most ICU patients have been overweight, he said, which is puzzling: Their weight isn't causing other health conditions that the federal government says puts people at higher risk of severe influenza complications, such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes, he said.

"I really don't consider being overweight a disease, at least in the patients we're seeing," Dean said. "It's not like they're so [obese] they've gone into heart failure. Somehow, the disease is striking them."

About a fourth of the ICU flu patients have suffered from an inflamed airway, exacerbated by conditions like asthma or emphysema. Nationally, asthma is the most common condition causing hospitalizations.

Other patients end up in the ICU suffering from adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or septic shock, he said. ARDS is a lung condition that leads to low oxygen levels in the blood, which can harm organs, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

And while septic shock, which can lead to low blood pressure and organ failure, is normally associated with bacterial infections, doctors aren't seeing such infections with flu patients.

"The virus itself seems to be initiating the septic shock cascade
," said Dean, who said the virus reminds him of hantavirus, which is transmitted through rodent urine, droppings or saliva, and can cause acute respiratory distress.

The latest reported Salt Lake County deaths were a man between the ages of 25 and 50 who died Saturday and a woman who was 25 to 60 years old who died Monday. All six of the patients who have died had underlying health conditions that "may have put them at higher risk of complications or death, according to Salt Lake Valley Health Department spokeswoman Pam Davenport. (BLAH BLAH BLAH)
In two cases, those conditions have included obesity and sleep apnea and a liver condition, according to hospital officials or family members.

Additional deaths "are not unexpected," Gary Edwards, the department's executive director, said in a statement.

The continuing illnesses are surprising, since it was believed that the flu would take a summertime lull.

"Utah seems to be having a lot more of this than the rest of the country, in terms of severity of disease," Dean said. "It's partly because we have larger numbers of influenza than surrounding states. ... We're just trying to figure this out."

The Utah Department of Health will release statewide hospitalization numbers Wednesday. The average age of the most sick in the county is 21 years, with a range of 10 days old to 76 years old. Nationally, 1,621 people have been hospitalized as of Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend giving antiviral medications only to hospitalized patients and patients with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of complications. Doctors should also consider prophylactically treating people who live with flu patients and are at high risk of complications, the CDC says.

But Dean and others say people who have had symptoms of the flu, including a fever, cough, body aches and fatigue, for less than 48 hours should seek medications. "Why not use something you know works?" Dean said.

Antiviral wholesalers have reported to the state health department that there is an adequate private supply of Tamiflu and Relenza, but individual pharmacies may not have enough. A Sugarhouse Walgreen's pharmacist said Tamiflu is sold as quickly as it is stocked.

Re: Post cytokine storm / organ failure / cyanosis related stories here......

I have encountered the same information blockade. So has Appleblossom.

It is remarkable that the suppression of this information is virtually universal across the US, Mexico and in Canada.

It is also the policy being followed in other areas of the world too.

Why?

Who knows and yes the WHO knows.

But we do not know because those that do know have decided that we should not know. What's more, those that have decided that it is "best" that we do not have this information have been "very effective" in their mission to keep this information out of public, medical, and scientific view. What is the proof of this? Because we do not have this information. Those with this information must be under considerable pressure to keep quiet about it.

This is very weird to say the least.

Keep searching. The number of people who have this information is growing every day, along with the death count.

I salute your effort to get someone with the information to share it with us.

Thanks for your good works,

GW

:applause::applause::applause:

Thank you! I have been saying this for weeks! Obesity, in and of itself, won't make you succumb! It increases the risk for other conditions that might make you succumb, but you can be obese and not have other significant health problems.

The daily death toll is quite unnerving particularly when we get some insight into the suffering of these victims and their families.

What is also disturbing to me, although I understand why it happens, is that the news of the deaths is only in local web sites. We here on flutrackers see the news of these deaths all over the Americas and globally, but the average person does not. They only see what happens in their locality. They do not experience the cumulative effect and the drip, drip, drip of daily death news. They do not understand what is happening around the world and the country in which they live.

The U.S. as a country has painted itself into a frightening corner with the mantra of 36,000 deaths every year from season flu. People take that as gospel and most journalists do as well.

Since I never knew anyone who died from flu, nor did my daughters, nor my husband I started to wonder about this huge annual number of victims of seasonal flu. When I went onto the CDC website and read their explanation, I understood that it was a computer model that pumped out guestimates that did not reflect what was actually on death certificates. In nonpandemic times, this type of benign propaganda is, perhaps, justifiable because it scares people into getting flu vaccines.

But....now that we have a pandemic virus and health officials repeat this mantra, how can any one expect the American public to be concerned about deaths from this new flu until the number of deaths goes way past 36,000? So what do we have now, 60-70 deaths? No where near that magic number of 36,000. How do we expect the public who has been brainwashed into thinking 36,000 people die every year from flu to think that this new flu is anything but mild?

This corner painting activity could become very dicey in flu season. Let's say, God forbid, that we get a thousand deaths at some point, does the government say "well, it's not anywhere near the 36,000 annual deaths from seasonal flu?" Will we ever hear governments tell us that a thousand kids and young adults deaths are trivial compared with this made-up number for the annual flu? I think we're real close to this situation.

If politicians were as intelligent as they are deceptive, they might realize there is a credibility problem just ahead.

Remember all the worries that WHO et al had that if they went to Phase 6 there would be panic. I sure don't see any panic. All I see is complacency and lack of concern. WHO and governments have created this false sense of security about this first wave. People panic when they believe their government(s) are lying to them. This recently happened in NYC. Revere, at Effect Measure, addresses this issue candidly.

The other thing I wonder about is if things start to look awfully bad from the standpoint of lethality, what are the politicians going to tell the public to do to protect themselves? You can't all of a sudden tell the whole world to go out and get a month's supply of necessities without having chaos. If all they talk about is handwashing and sneeze reduction when they could have said something much more meaningful and preparative, we could see "change we believe in" in many countries around the world.

This will be interesting -- and, I'm afraid, heartbreaking -- to watch.

I know that those that follow my threads probably think my tone and choice of words might seem alarmist / panicky at times. I will let everyone in on a little secret - It's intentional.

Sometimes a good cattle prod is what is needed to jolt the sheep into action. This whole thing is heading in a bad direction. Dark Horse's comments above really sum up the coming problem. There is going to come a moment in time that everything comes together, and the public collectively becomes aware of what is going on.

It's going to be chaos. Our "Bleeping" officials have squandered so many perfect opportunities to phase in preparedness.

Let me give this analogy.....
All over the world, everyday, people go to huge events (concerts, Sporting Events, etc). And the people file in orderly, and they file out orderly, and all is good. But there are only so many exits. If in this packed environment, someone shouts "FIRE!", or "HE'S GOT A GUN!" - then suddenly everyone panics, and a stampede ensues - and it all gets choked at the very limited exit points. And people get trampled and die.

In a way, that is what the officials have set us up for. A sudden panic - and everyone will attempt to prepare all at once. But that won't work - and it's going to be a problem. A big problem.

So that is why I attempt to Jolt the Sheep! Because the time for ACTION is now! The Clock is ticking towards that moment in time.

.....Another very quick death
First swine flu death reported in San Diego County
6:07 PM | June 16, 2009

San Diego County has had its first swine-flu death, county health officials said Tuesday.

The victim was a 20-year-old woman. The county had some of the first cases of the swine flu before it began to spread throughout the country.

The county has had 275 confirmed swine flu cases, with 20 requiring hospitalization, according to Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. The unnamed 20-year-old woman became sick on the weekend and died within 24 hours, Wooten said.

Would it be normal to sequence the virus in at least some of the deaths, such as this one, to determine if there is some form of mutation that might be making it more lethal?

June 16, 2009 (WLS) --

An 8-year-old boy may be the latest victim of the H1N1 flu virus in the Chicago area. Relatives said the child got sick last week, went to the hospital on Friday and died on Saturday......... The state won't release details..................

"It just happened overnight. We didn't see it coming," said Matt Dampier, uncle of boy. Dampier said his eight-year-old nephew Mark wasn't feeling well Thursday, went to a south suburban hospital Friday and was diagnosed with pneumonia, then transported to Christ Hospital where the boy died Saturday morning.

"Don't let a small fever or cold pass you by thinking its nothing because it can really turn into something like this. We never seen this coming. He was real healthy and real active and we're really going to miss him," said Dampier.

There are 600 confirmed cases of H1N1 in Cook County. Seventy percent of those cases are in patients under 20 years old.

Young, Healthy, Full of Energy and Life...... until they die suddenly.

I've got kids. I'm afraid this one is making me tear up.

Officials need to get their act together. They need to make announcements. They need to issue incredibly strong and public guidance about Tamiflu usage. By the time they get around to having a coordinated Tamiflu program - the D#$%%M virus will have mutated into resistance.

I transcribed a few segments of the interview:

Reporter: ....We're told midweek last week they rushed her to the emergency room. She had flulike symptoms and a very serious headache, and two days later she was diagnosed with the swine flu. And tonight, we're told, she is fighting for her life.

David Reeves (boyfriend): They're saying there's a 50-50 chance. She may make it, may not. [....] Well, when she was coughing and experiencing headaches, and then the flu and the nausea set in, I should've recognized it. Guess I should've been harsh on her and grabbed her by the wrist and said, "Come on, let's go"....

Reporter: Now, Danika's boyfriend says she did have asthma and was a bit overweight, but other than that, he says, they didn't know of any other pre-existing health conditions that she did have. He says tonight her liver and lungs are both failing....

Re: Post cytokine storm / organ failure / cyanosis related stories here......

Re: Post cytokine storm / organ failure / cyanosis related stories here......

It could be seen from the previous posts here the presence of two main doubts about the actual situation:

1. There are many very well informed FT's posters who stil wonders why the countries health and other estabs silenced all the serious events:

- because no country were/are/will invest enaugh more money and working force to try to cure in time the illness, and they want this decision to not be questioned. By info publishing control it could remain this way until it will be obvious to anybody. Than, there are various armed forces which could contain ...

And if it became more nasty and deadly, it would continue that way - don't forget the mass bags and the crematories from the years old FT threads posted various countries preparedness plans.

2. The unexistant early cure automatic somministration.

Now it is clear that the victims could suddenly die the first or the next day, even by having simptoms like an ordinary cold, or less.
How could anybody suggest an antiviral therapy watching a person with cold?
It could - if that is already main way suggested by the main health/gov advisors, by publishing an emergency measure policy,
where all seniors (maybe child./teens also) in a hotzone area must be preventively treated for a week by antivirals, no matter their symptoms.

That was the instauration of the old 2005 WHO pandemic flu guideliness, as an preventive blanket on all of the affected region.
The weak link remains the teens/childrens colaterals possible events if using antivirals.

A week of antivirals will pick down the winging of flu spreadings, especialy if there are massive infections.

Probably, the above will be missed, because they already worldwide handwashed about the actual death numberings near the "standard" seasonal flu ones,
and they don't want to risk guesses of resistances, or to release the stocks without have them renewed for the possible next more serious wave.

Summing all, it is, and will be, harsh and deadly. The "Moderate-6" starting, means that it is/will be serious.
If not, instead, they were pick the Mild-6, later-moderate wave, option.

So, for the ordinary citizen, if reyected early without antivirals from the health prof.,
seems the only option to decide if to autonom. choose to ingest a preventive antivirals dose (and the eventual collaterals) at the first cold symptom, or to wait the god(s)/fate mercy, as in the dark ancient times.

With all that 21century "high technology" gadgeting populistic reclamizations ..., stil remaining with the above option.

Sad indeed.

A 52-year-old man with other health problems was admitted to a hospital on May 30. He died on June 11.

Yes, I think there is some concern here. The local newspaper article did say they are treating all of the deceased woman's contacts with Tamiflu so I assume they will also look closely at her virus.

From a suspected death of a 8 yr old in the Chicago metro area (there is a link to video):

Dampier said his eight-year-old nephew Mark wasn't feeling well Thursday, went to a south suburban hospital Friday and was diagnosed with pneumonia, then transported to Christ Hospital where the boy died Saturday morning.

"No sooner I could get up in the morning to call to check on him, to see how he was doing...It happened too quickly," said Dampier.

Dampier said the family was told Mark likely had H1N1.

As Cook County Health officials await confirmation of the fatal case, they are seeing higher than normal emergency room visits for the flu due to H1N1.

"This is the right time to change behavior in terms of increased focus on the benefits of good hygiene as a means of preventing infection," said Dr. Michael Vernon, Cook County director of Communicable Disease Control.

As health officials urge continued attention to prevention, the Dampiers also warn parents to be alert to your child's health.

"Don't let a small fever or cold pass you by thinking its nothing because it can really turn into something like this. We never seen this coming. He was real healthy and real active and we're really going to miss him," said Dampier.

What I don't understand is why more attention isn't being given to the PERCENTAGE of deaths, instead of the number? If 100 people have only so far died from a disease, but only 100 people have yet to contract that disease (and the disease spreads easily and was not isolated), isn't that disease more noteworthy to watch and be prepared for than a disease that kills .01% of its victims, but has had a whole year of circulation to add to a thousands death toll?

Sorry to use extreme analogy, but I think it is a point most people are missing.

We don't know what that percentage is. Last tracking I saw from official numbers indicated it was in the neighborhood of 0.5% worldwide, which is considerably higher than seasonal flu. But it is widely known and accepted that we don't know the true number of cases (where cases is different than infections). But it is likely we don't have a handle on all the deaths yet. Some deaths will likely be mis-attributed to some other cause, or the immediate cause of death (pneumonia) will be listed but not linked to an immediately prior flu infection.
