Two more succumb to H1N1

The city reported two deaths from influenza A (H1N1) today, taking the cumulative toll to 59. Among the two fatalities, one is of a person who died in the Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital on December 16, but his swab sample report confirmed him with the viral flu today.

The other is that of a 26-year-old woman who went to Lok Nayak Hospital after delivering a baby and succumbed to H1N1 infection today.

In this case, whether the baby has contracted the virus from the mother is yet to be ascertained by the hospital authorities.

Yesterday, the city reported two casualties and of these, one is of that of a 26-year-old woman who lost her life to the contagious disease in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Thanks for this valuable information, I would like to ask one thing here. Why India not concentrating on preventing the Swine flu and is there any vacination available to avoid the loss of life. Because now the people are not having the basic awareness of swine flu and thinking it as a deadly diseases. If the symptoms of the disease can be found earlier is there any option to cure the person and protecting him against the death.

India has produce via its own Pharma a generic of Tamiflu.

But Tamiflu is good if taken 48 hours after symptoms.
Few get to the Hospitals or Clinics in 48 hours.
Chandigar Hospitals cannot accept new patients, no more space.

It is a tragedy for those who get the virulent form of the flu, it is a tough cold for some and a sneee for others.

Hand Washing and Respiratory Etiquette should be said over and over in villages via the loud speakers of the car or bikes.

Lets avoid overcrowding hospitals for gastros, lets wash our hands, coughing inside the elbow, having a small scarf.

Yes there is a virus blowing, for the wide majority of people it is ok but some falls, but this is not 1918.

Human trials of H1N1 vaccine in India expected soon


STAFF WRITER 9:5 HRS ISTNew Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) Pre-market human trials of swine flu vaccine to check its efficacy on Indians may start in the next fortnight as the Indian Council of Medical research is in final stages of "positive" negotiations with an international pharmaceutical company in this regard.

"We will finalise the deal with the international vaccine manufacturing company by December 15 with which we will place the order. So far, negotiations have been positive," a health ministry official said.

"Government is negotiating with three international vaccine manufacturers. By next fortnight, the phase IV trials are expected to begin. This will be done to check the safety and the immunogenicity of the foreign-made vaccine on Indian population," Dr V M Katoch, DG, ICMR said.

Sources in the health ministry also said international vaccine manufacturer Glaxo Smith Kline has quoted the lowest price and is under consideration

India has actually put significant effort into trying to slow the spread of H1N1. Passengers entering the country are still being screened, around 10,000,000 by now. Contacts of the initial cases in each state were tracked down, screened and often given preemptive Tamiflu. Schools were organized in some cases where students and teachers were delegated to follow up absenteeism with a house visit to find the reason for absence.
In Pune, the municipal government organized door to door screenings that covered over 2 million people. Schools have had in house screenings to find sick children.
Schools and colleges have been closed, ventilator and isolation ward capacity has been increased.
India is producing its own anti viral drugs, and should have its indigenous vaccine ready by January.
Unfortunately, as elsewhere in the world, none of this has been enough to stop the spread of the disease, but up until this most recent cold snap, India had not been doing as badly as, say the Ukraine or Turkey.

125 people test positive for swine flu in city

New Delhi, Dec 22 (PTI) A whopping 125 fresh swine flu cases were reported in the city today raising the number of patients infected by the disease so far to 8,626.

"Of the total 125 positive cases, 67 were children. With this, the total number of swine flu cases reported till date is 8,626 of which 4,992 cases are that of children," Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

So far, 60 people have died in the city due to the pandemic virus, she said.

Walia, however, said the situation is under control and the government is doing its best in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals.

According to the WHO, India continues to report the maximum number of cases of swine flu in the south east Asian region.

831 swine flu deaths in India, over 24,000 affected (Lead)

New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Sixteen deaths, including four from the national capital, were reported Thursday, taking the toll in India to 831, health authorities said here.
Also, 268 new cases were reported in the country, taking the total number of people affected with the contagious flu to over 24,707.

Apart from the four deaths reported from the Indian capital, where the toll has now touched 64, three deaths were reported from Karnataka and Rajasthan each.

Two succumbed to the virus in Maharashtra, taking the toll in the state due to Influenza A (H1N1) to 251 - the highest in the country.

Jammu and Kashmir reported its second swine flu death Thursday, officials said.

In Delhi, two people died in the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, while one died in Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and the fourth one at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

?The total death toll in Delhi is now 64,? Anjana Prakash, deputy nodal officer in charge of swine flu in Delhi, told IANS. However, details of the deaths were not available.
The city also reported 137 fresh cases of which 59 were children. ?With this the total infection across the city has reached 8,888,? Prakash added.

New cases were also recorded from Maharashtra (30), Gujarat (16), Uttar Pradesh (13), Rajasthan (12), Karnataka (14) and Goa (1).

?There were two deaths because of Influenza A(H1N1) today (Saturday). One was in the Apollo hospital and the other one at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital,? Anjana Prakash, assistant nodal officer for swine flu cases in Delhi, told IANS.

At least 88 new cases of swine flu were reported during the day in Delhi, she added.

?Of the 88 new cases, 42 were children. This takes the total number of those affected by swine flu in the capital to 9,071,? Prakash said.

Among those affected are 5,171 are children.

NEW DELHI: One more person died of swine flu taking the total number of casualties due to the contagious virus in the capital to 67, authorities said on Sunday.

"At least one person has died of H1N1 in Delhi," said a health ministry official. However, the details of the person are not known.

Authorities said the city reported 77 new cases of swine flu. With these new infections, the city has so far reported over 9,100 cases of H1N1.

One dies due to swine flu, 62 fresh cases in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 29 (PTI) One more person died due to swine flu and 62 patients, including 18 children, tested positive for the disease in the national capital today, taking the number of cases to 9,260.

"Of the total 62 positive cases, 18 were of children.

With this, the total number of swine flu cases reported till date has reached 9,260," Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

She also said that a total of 5,248 children have been affected by the virus till now. The toll due to the pandemic virus in the city rose to 68 after one death was reported today, she said.

Walia, however, maintained that the situation is under control and the government is doing its best in providing treatment to H1N1 patients in government hospitals.

According to the WHO, India continues to report maximum number of cases of swine flu in the south-east Asian region.

Delhi sees one more H1N1 death

After a day of relief, the upsurge in fatalities due to Influenza A (H1N1) continued on Tuesday, with a 23-year-old man succumbing to the disease in the Safdarjung Hospital, said Dr Anjan Prakash, deputy nodal officer for H1N1 in Delhi.

The details of the victim are not known, she added.

With the death, the cumulative toll of people giving in to the virus in the Capital has gone up to 68.

Meanwhile, the city recorded 62 fresh H1N1infections, including 18 children. Now, the total number of victims of the viral disease in Delhi has become 9,260.

3 die, 204 sick with swine flu in armed forces
By IANSDecember 31st, 2009 NEW DELHI - The armed forces had 204 cases of swine flu in 2009, leading to death in three cases.


In the latest case, an officer, also suffering from multiple organ failure, Wednesday succumbed to swine flu in Delhi. The other two swine flu deaths were reported in Pune and Bangalore.

?We had 204 confirmed cases of swine flu among the three services. Three deaths have occurred,? Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Lt. Gen. N.K. Parmar told reporters here, at the annual press conference of the service ahead of their 246th anniversary.

?An advisory with detailed preventive measures has been issued in this regard. Also stock of Tamiflu have been made readily available. We have also screened 5,000 cases among civilian population at Pune and Bangalore,? Parmar added.

The armed forces are equipping 10 hospitals across the country to contain pandemics in future.

?We are working on it (equipping hospitals). Laboratories and process of segregation is in place. We have contained the disease,? he added.

?All cases (leading to death) were catered in civil (hospitals) first and were transferred to army hospitals in a morbid state, when it is difficult to revive them,? Parmar added.

At least 880 people have died across the country due to swine flu.

"Of the total 34 positive cases, six were of children.

With this, the total number of swine flu cases reported till date has reached the 9,481 mark," Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

She also said till date 5,309 children have been affected by the H1N1 virus causing the disease.

The death due to the flu in the city rose to 73 after one patient died today in the city, Walia said.

Anjana Prakash, Delhi?s assistant nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS that the deaths took place at the Jaipur Golden hospital between Dec 8 and 14 last year.

?There was some confusion but the hospital has sent a detailed report confirming the deaths,? she said.

Delhi reported 13 new swine flu cases Wednesday, taking the cumulative cases to 9,508. Of these one was a child. The first swine flu death in the country took place in August last year.

New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS) Two people died due to swine flu in the national capital Monday, taking the toll due to the pandemic virus to 87 in the city, health officials said.
A 41-year-old man died in Apollo Hospital while a 36-year-old woman died in GTB Hospital in the capital Monday, said Anjana Prakash, Delhi?s deputy nodal officer for swine flu.

?Both of them were admitted to the hospital with severe lung infection,? Prakash told IANS.

The city also reported six new cases of swine flu Monday, taking the cumulative swine flu infections in the city to 9,562. Over 50 percent of those affected by swine flu in Delhi are children.

Delhi reported its first swine flu death Aug 20, 2009.
