New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) A 34-year-old man undergoing treatment at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital here for swine flu symptoms died today, taking the toll in the disease to seven in the capital.

This is the third consecutive death since September 10.

"This is the seventh case of death due to swine flu in Delhi," N K Chaturvedi, Medical Superintendent, RML hospital said.

The victim, a resident of Ghaziabad, was admitted to the hospital on September 5 with complaints of chest pain, fever and breathlessness.

"His death happened because of delayed treatment. He went to a doctor 12 days after showing symptoms. He was first admitted to Fortis hospital, Noida and then shifted here. He was found to be positive for swine flu here," Chaturvedi said.

The city had reported its sixth swine flu death yesterday when a 38-year-old woman, Raj Bala, succumbed to the viral infection.

Delhi today witnessed its eighth H1N1 death in the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital even as 53 new confirmed cases were reported, Health authorities said.

RML Hospital's Medical Superintendent N K Chaturvedi told UNI that 35-year-old Ajay Agarwal, hailing from Ghaziabad, died at 1100 hrs. He attributed his death to the fact that the patient was not immediately brought to the hospital, and came 12 days after catching the infection. ''Ajay had symptoms of fever, cough and breathlessness for the last 12-13 days. He was taken to the Fortis Hospital in Noida on September 5 and shifted to our hospital on September 8. However, he was shifted to the ICU on Thursday after his condition worsened and put on ventilator. He did not respond to Tamiflu and his lungs had been damaged by the virus,'' Dr Chaturvedi said.

Meanwhile, 53 new cases of H1N1 flu were reported in the capital, Delhi Government's Nodal Officer Dr Anjan Prakash said. More than 80 per cent of these patients were under home quarantine, she added.

These new cases included 32 children, she said.

With this, the total number of H1N1 flu patients reported so far in the capital grew to 1203.

NEW DELHI: A three-year-old boy died of swine flu at Hindu Rao hospital on Sunday evening, but his sample tested positive on Monday. He is the
seventh victim to die of swine flu in the capital. Meanwhile, 53 new H1N1 influenza cases were reported in the city.

The boy was a resident of Sonia Vihar and was admitted to Hindu Rao Hospital on September 12. "He was suffering from pneumonia and was put on the ventilator. His swab was sent to NICD for testing on Sunday, but unfortunately the boy died in the evening. He tested positive for H1N1 influenza,'' said Dr Anjan Prakash, additional nodal officer, Delhi government.

What's bothering the state health department is the fact that the infection has now reached crowded clusters. "We are doing contact tracing of the case, as the area is crowded. The infection can spread faster in such areas. That is why, we have to give prophylactic treatment to people who came in close contact with him,'' said Dr Prakash.

Of the 53 cases confirmed on Monday, 29 are children. So far 1,345 cases have been reported in the city. At present, 144 people are undergoing treatment at various government hospitals and are in home quarantine.

New Delhi, Sept 15 (PTI) Swine flu claimed its tenth victim in the city today when a 26-year-old man undergoing treatment at the RML hospital here succumbed to the viral infection.

Despite various measures taken up by the government, six persons have died in as many days in the city since September 10.

A 40-year-old woman who died yesterday night at the GTB hospital tested positive for the virus today.

The toll due to swine flu has now reached 10 in the city.

"A total of 10 deaths due to swine flu have been recorded in the city till date. The 40-year-old woman has been identified as Selji Puri. She was admitted to the GTB hospital and she passed away yesterday at 10.30 pm.

"Today her test reports confirmed that she was positive for swine flu.

New Delhi: A 20-year-old pregnant woman today died of swine flu at a city-based hospital here, taking the toll in the city due to the virus to nine.Anita Devi, resident of Badarpur area, was admitted to Safdarjung hospital on September 18.

"She was five months pregnant and she tested positive for swine flu on 20 September. She died due to respiratory failure today. With this the toll in the city has risen to nine,"
Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

Swab samples of 2065 people have been tested positive for the H1N1 virus till date. Out of the total positive cases, 108 were identified today.

"A total 2065 cases were admitted and treated for swine flu virus in designated government hospitals till date. The NICD has declared 108 positive cases of swine flu virus today of which 70 alone are of children," Walia said.

Meanwhile, the city government announced that Tamiflu drug will now be available at retail outlets of authorized chemists here. "More than 90 per cent of the patients have been successfully treated and discharged," she said.

New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) A 55-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital here, today succumbed to swine flu, taking the toll in the city from the H1N1 virus to 10.

A resident of Mahavir Enclave area, the deceased Kailash Devi was admitted to LNJP hospital on September 15.

"She was brought to the hospital in a deteriorating condition. She was immediately shifted to the ICU and was on ventilator till this morning when she passed away," Delhi nodal officer for swine flu management Dr Anjan Prakash said.

With this the toll in the city has reached ten.

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old woman in the eighth month of pregnancy succumbed to H1N1 infection at Safdarjung Hospital on Sunday morning. Anita Verma, a
resident of Noida, was admitted to the hospital 10 days ago after she tested positive for swine flu.

"She was suffering from respiratory distress and was put on the ventilator immediately. Like many others, she too had come to the hospital very late. Her baby died in the womb,'' said Dr Anjan Prakash, additional nodal officer, Delhi Government. The state health department is not adding this to the capital's toll as the woman was a resident of Noida. Till now, 10 deaths have been reported in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the swine flu tally rose to 2548 with 81 new cases being confirmed on Sunday of which 44 are children.

197 fresh cases of swine flu; 2 more succumb to disease

New Delhi, Sept 30 (PTI) A total of 197 fresh cases of swine flu were reported from across the country today while two more persons succumbed to the disease.

Delhi reported 59 cases, Maharashtra 46, Tamil Nadu 25 and Kerala and Karnataka 13 each.

With today'a cases, the total number of people afflicted with the disease rose to 10,233.

One death each was reported from Delhi and Andhra Pradesh.

In Delhi, the toll touched 11 with the death of a 22-year-old man at the Safdarjung Hospital here even as 59 more people tested positive to the viral infection raising the number of such cases to 2,739.

"One 22-year-old male died on September 29 at the Safdarjung Hospital. His test reports were positive for swine flu virus. He had contracted pneumonia and suffered from respiratory distress.

New Delhi, Oct 1(PTI) With samples of an eight-month-old baby boy, who died earlier, testing positive for swine flu today, the death toll in the city due to the viral disease has reached 12.

Meanwhile, 51 fresh cases of swine were reported here during the day of which 34 were children.

"An eight-month-old male child who died on September 29 at Hindu Rao Hospital was reported to be positive for swine flu virus today," Delhi health minister Kiran Walia said.

"A total of 51 positive cases of H1N1 Influenza have been identified today. 2,790 positive cases of swine flu virus have been identified here till date and 1467 cases were of children alone. Almost 90 per cent of the patients have been successfully treated and discharged for home," she said.

New Delhi, Oct 6(PTI) Death toll due to swine flu reached 14 in the city after a 27-year-old woman undergoing treatment at Safdarjung hospital succumbed to the virus today.

During the day, 27 fresh cases of swine were reported here of which 15 were children.

A total of 2,920 people, including 1,535 children, have tested positive for swine flu virus till date in the national capital.

"A 27-year-old woman who died today was a confirmed case of H1N1 virus. With this the toll in the city has risen to 14," Kiran Walia, Delhi health minister said adding, "2920 people have tested positive for swine flu virus till date."

NEW DELHI: A 54-year-old woman died due to H1N1 influenza at Safdarjung Hospital on Wednesday morning. With this, 16 people have succumbed to the
infection. Close to 3,300 have tested positive in the capital so far.

Lakshmi, a resident of RK Puram, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on October 7 and she tested positive for H1N1 influenza on October 9. But doctors say her condition deteriorated as she was an asthma patient. "She was on ventilator for the past 12 days. She died due to cardio-pulmonary failure,'' said Dr Anjan Prakash, additional nodal officer, Delhi government.

The state health department said a majority of cases are coming very late to the designated centres. "Those who are immuno-compromised must report to the designated centres at the earliest. Even a slight delay can prove fatal,'' added Dr Prakash.

SAIL doctor succumbs to swine flu

Rourkela, Oct 22 (PTI) A 40-year-old government doctor from Jharkhand died of swine-flu at a private hospital in New Delhi early today, officials said.

ENT specialist A K Burnwal, employed with SAIL's Raw material division at Kirbur mines, was suffering from fever and thereby shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here on October 8 as a suspected case of swine flu.

Burnwal tested positive for H1N1 virus based on findings of a Kolkata laboratory.

As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi on October 18 by a special plane from Rourkela. The end came today at 6.45 am, the officials said.

He is survived by his doctor wife Abha and two sons.

The Officers Association of the Kirbur mines has condoled the death of Burnwal.

New Delhi, Nov 12 (IANS) A 22-year-old woman died of swine flu in the national capital, taking the toll from the disease in the city to 18 so far, health officials said Thursday.

The woman tested positive for influenza A(H1N1) and was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital with severe pneumonia a few days back that led to respiratory failure, the official said.

Meanwhile, 26 new swine flu cases, including 19 children, were reported Thursday in the capital.

Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said the situation is under control and the government was taking all measures to check the spread of the contagious disease.

India has so far reported 508 swine flu deaths.

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) Two more persons succumbed to swine flu today even as 243 fresh cases of the disease were reported across the country.

Both the deaths were reported from Delhi, taking the countrywide toll to 565, a senior Health Ministry official said.

With 243 fresh cases, the total number of cases has now touched 17,729.

While Delhi reported the maximum number of 106 fresh cases, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh followed the national capital with 43 and 23 cases respectively.

Till date, samples from 86,015 people have been tested for swine flu in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country and 20.6 per cent of them have been found positive.

Out of the 243 cases reported during the day, three have foreign travel history while the rest are all indigenous cases.

New Delhi: Four people have died of swine flu in New Delhi and 106 fresh cases were reported--the highest in the country on Friday, a health official said.

The deaths take the national toll to 566.

Of the four deaths, two each were in Safdarjung Hospital and the Lady Hardinge Medical College an Hospital. In Safdarjung Hospital - a 36-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man succumbed to the pandemic virus. With these deaths, the toll in the capital has reached 22.

"We have reported 106 fresh cases Friday, including 68 children," a senior Delhi health ministry official told IANS.

A swine flu death was reported from Himachal Pradesh where an eight-year-old boy died in a government hospital. This was the second death in the state due to the H1N1 virus.


"A boy who was suffering from swine flu and was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (Sector 32) died Thursday," chief medical officer Ashok Tagra told IANS.


Also during the day, 243 fresh cases were reported, including 106 from Delhi. While Haryana reported 43 new cases, 23 cases were from Uttar Pradesh.

With these cases, Delhi has reported 4,406 cases of influenza A (H1N1) - highest among states so far. Maharashtra follows close behind with 3,954 cases, Tamil Nadu is at number three position with 1,846 cases.

Two deaths were reported from Delhi while the third was reported from Kerala, taking the total toll to 569, a senior Health Ministry official said.

While Delhi reported the maximum number of 48 fresh cases, Maharashtra and Haryana followed with 19 and 17 cases respectively.

India's swine flu death toll jumps to 580

New Delhi, Dec 1: Five swine flu deaths were reported in the country Tuesday, taking the toll to 580, health authorities said here.


A record 198 new cases were also recorded. This takes the number of people affected with the virus to 18,396.

While two deaths were reported from Rajasthan, one death each was recorded in Delhi, Punjab and Maharashtra.

According to officials, the death in Punjab had occurred earlier, but was confirmed Tuesday. In Punjab, four people have died due to the flu so far.

With the one death in Maharashtra, the toll there has now touched 224 - which is the highest in the country. Fortysix people have succumbed to the contagious virus in Rajasthan so far, officials added.

In the national capital, a 30-year-old pregnant woman died in a city hospital, taking the toll due to influenza A(H1N1) to 23, state health officials said.
"The woman was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narain Hospital here Saturday with bad respiratory tract infection," said Anjan Prakash, Delhi state nodal officer for swine flu.

"The woman died around 3.30 a.m. Tuesday. She was shifted here from another hospital after her condition deteriorated," she said.

The capital recorded 98 new swine flu cases, taking the total number of people affected with the disease to 5,106, the highest in the country.

With rising flu cases, the Delhi government has decided to launch a fresh awareness campaign in the capital.

"Over the few days, we have been getting almost 100 cases of swine flu a day on an average. Yet, I won't call this number alarming because, as announced by WHO, with winters approaching the second wave of the flu will hit many more people," said Prakash.

New cases in the country were also reported from Haryana (30), Maharashtra (20), Uttar Pradesh (13), Rajasthan (10) and Gujarat (4).

NEW DELHI: Two women died of swine flu in the Capital on Wednesday, while 116 new cases were reported, 83 of them children. ?A 40-year-old woman from Vikaspuri admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on November 28 died on Wednesday. She was diabetic. Another woman aged 50 admitted to Lohia Hospital on November 27 too died,? said a senior health official.
