CHENNAI: Two people were quarantined at the Government General Hospital and one person admitted to the Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet on the suspicion that they suffer from A(H1N1) flu. Their nasal samples and throat swabs have been sent for testing and the results are expected on Tuesday.
Of the three patients, two men and one woman are from Anna Nagar, Port Trust and Thiruvanmiyur respectively. One of them had travelled to Andhra Pradesh, where cases of A(H1N1) have been reported in isolated pockets. The state health department has called for a meeting of civic bodies and municipalities to discuss strategies for early diagnosis and treatment.
The state has already vaccinated over 18,000 frontline healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and paramedics. "We want to sensitise doctor and paramedics. This time we will avoid screening in public places or closing down schools," said health secretary VK Subburaj.
