This is important not just because of the unneeded vaccine risks, but also if coverage is underestimated then signals that pathogens could be evolving away from vaccine strains could be missed in time to redo vaccines and/or take other measures to limit spread.
https://storify.com/dawnbazely/transcending-the-polarization-of-the-vaccination-cMY OWN STORY: A few weeks ago, I received a letter from Toronto Public Health informing me that my Grade 12 daughter was not up-to-date with her vaccinations. We went to our family doctor to get the shots, only to discover that @carrie_ewins had received the shots, and phoned them in, but that the database hadn't been updated.
I have, since, discovered that lots of other students have received these letters and I'm glad that Toronto Public Health is acknowledging the gaps in its database (QC protocols may need to be reviewed) and taking a cautious approach
