Dengue cases have reached 73 as of Wednesday, the Tongan government says.

In a statement, the Kingdom's health ministry said the age group most affected is that of 10-19 year olds.

Five cases were in hospital, and all were stable.

Tongatapu, the main islands, has the most confirmed cases (33),followed by Vava'u (28) and 'Eua (12).

Tonga's Ministry of Health says total dengue fever cases in the kingdom have reached 215.

In an update on Tuesday, the Ministry said 12 people were in hospital.

It says just over half of cases, 113, are from Vava'u, with 71 from Tongatapu and 31 from 'Eua.

The youngest case is a seven-month old baby.

No deaths have been reported.​...

Thirteen new cases of dengue reported with positive rapid tests, have brought the total cumulative Dengue Fever cases up to 321 in Tonga.

The Ministry of Health reported on 20 March that the 13 new cases are currently hospitalized (8 at Prince Ngu, 3 at Niu’eiki, 2 at Vaiola) and all are in stable condition.

A majority of confirmed cases are from Vava’u (182), the rest from Tongatapu (100) and ‘Eua (39).

The age group mostly affected is 10-19 years old. Youngest age affected is a 7 months old baby boy.

Tonga's Health Minister Dr Ana 'Akau-ola has confirmed a 19-year-old and a seven-month-old have died of dengue fever.

The Kingdom declared a dengue outbreak in February.

Dr Ana 'Akauola said type two dengue fever has been the most common in diagnosed patients in Tonga, but she suspects there is a different strain.

"The only dengue serotype that we have in Tonga that we know of at present is dengue type two, but after these two deaths, I asked the staff to please check again with the newly diagnosed dengue fever patients, particularly the ones that I admitted to the hospital to get that check-up as well," she said.

"Because we may also have dengue type three circulating around because that's what's happening in Fiji at the moment, they have dengue two and three."​...

​Tonga has 15 new dengue fever cases confirmed through rapid tests. The latest Situation Report today brings the total cumulative number of cases to 697, since tracking began in February.

Tongatapu has 331 cases, Vava’u 305, ‘Eua 59, and Ha'apai two cases.

Currently, eight people are hospitalized in Vaiola, one in Prince Ngu, and one in Niu;eiki. They are all in stable condition, Ministry of Health (MOH) stated.

Dengue Virus Type 2 (DENV-2) is the responsible virus for this current outbreak in Tonga...
