Togo/Dengue epidemic: instructions from the Ministry of Health
June 28, 2024 in HEALTH
The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Prof Moustafa Mijiyawa, announced the detection of cases of dengue in Togo during the second quarter of 2024. This alert was issued via an official press release made public this Thursday.
Dengue fever, an infectious disease transmitted by mosquito bites, is characterized by fever, severe weakness, headache, joint and/or muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and rash. In some cases, these symptoms may be accompanied by bleeding and can lead to serious complications.
To deal with this situation, the Ministry of Health has put in place several measures. Among these are the early detection and notification of cases, the organization of patient care, as well as raising awareness among the population about preventive measures and the actions to be taken in the event of suspicion of dengue.
Minister Mijiyawa issued specific recommendations to the population to limit the spread of dengue fever. He strongly encourages citizens to sleep under impregnated mosquito nets, wear covering clothing and use other methods of protection against mosquitoes. He also emphasizes the importance of destroying breeding grounds, such as abandoned cans and kitchen utensils, which encourage the proliferation of mosquitoes.
Furthermore, the minister urged the population to quickly report any suspected cases to health centers. “In the event of any suspicion, inform the staff of the nearest health facility for rapid and adequate treatment. Dengue fever can be cured if it is detected and treated early in a health facility,” he said.
Vigilance and cooperation from all are essential to prevent a dengue outbreak in Togo. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely and implement the necessary measures to protect public health.

Health alert: cases of dengue fever detected in the territory

(Togo Official) - In Togo, cases of dengue fever were recorded during the second quarter by the epidemiological surveillance system, the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene announced on Thursday, June 27.
Although, as usual, immediate measures have been taken, particularly for early detection, notification, case management and raising awareness among the population, investigations are continuing.
For now, populations are invited to adopt vector control measures to reduce the risk of contracting the disease: avoid mosquito bites by sleeping under a mosquito net or wearing appropriate clothing, destroy larval breeding sites, eliminate waste around homes, and regularly clean the immediate environment, among others.
“ In the face of any suspicion, inform health personnel at the nearest health facility for rapid and adequate treatment ,” urged Minister Moustafa Mijiyawa in a press release.
As a reminder, dengue fever is an infectious disease from the group of viral hemorrhagic fevers, which has becomeincreasingly recurrent in the West African sub-region. Caused by mosquito bites, it manifests itself among other things by fever, intense weakness, headaches, joint and/or muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rashes. These symptoms may be accompanied by bleeding.
