Stewart County schools will close Friday, Feb. 24, and Monday, Feb. 27, due to illness, according to Assistant Schools Director Leta Joiner.

She explained that a virulent flu-like virus is making its way through the school system, with about 15-18 percent absent at Dover Elementary School on Thursday.

The onset of the virus is very fast, and it affects the stomach, among other things. Many of the students and teachers who have gotten the virus have become dehydrated...
