Health Dept. warns of Hepatitis A case at Rivergate Outback Steakhouse

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) ? Metro Public Health Department officials warned the public about a confirmed case of hepatitis A at the Outback Steakhouse Restaurant in the Rivergate area on Gallatin Pike.

Officials said one of the employees was diagnosed with acute hepatitis A. The restaurant employee worked at the restaurant while symptomatic December 22 ? 24, 2018.

The Metro Public Health Department said they will open a special clinic to offer free Hepatitis A vaccine at the Lentz Public Health Center (2500 on the following dates and times to those who dined at that location on December 22 ? 24. The potential exposure occurred only at Outback Steakhouse Restaurant?s Rivergate location. Individuals who dined at the restaurant on those dates have until January 7th to be vaccinated...

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Metro Public Health Department officials confirmed one new case of hepatitis A has been reported in Davidson County in the past week, raising the total confirmed cases to 191 since December 2017.

The health department continues to reach three at-risk groups.

Those at greatest risk of exposure to hepatitis A include:

People who use drugs (not just injection drug use)
Men who have sexual contact with men
Individuals experiencing homelessness...

A year after declaring Nashville was experiencing an outbreak of hepatitis A, the virus is on its way out. Public health officials say the number of new cases has plunged, and they're crediting efforts to inoculate people most at risk of contracting the disease.

Nearly 13,000 people in Nashville have been vaccinated against hepatitis A because they're part of one of the three main risk groups ? men who have sex with men, people who abuse drugs or who live outdoors...
