I'm a little confused. The thread linked to above is from 2007 (and must have tested negative as the WHO tables do not include any H5N1 cases from Saudi Arabia).

I think the first three articles in this thread refer to a case in the 2010 Hajj, and it appears to be an H1N1 case, not an H5N1 case.

I'm a little confused. The thread linked to above is from 2007 (and must have tested negative as the WHO tables do not include any H5N1 cases from Saudi Arabia).

I think the first three articles in this thread refer to a case in the 2010 Hajj, and it appears to be an H1N1 case, not an H5N1 case.

The only cases that appear on the WHO tables are cases that the national public health services have submitted to WHO for verification. I would consider the WHO chart a minimum number.

The report says: thousands of Indonesian pilgrims have a cough; one Indonesian pilgrim was found with H1N1. (Also 1 reported from the UK and 1 from India).

If you have one flu patient, there could be more, I agree.

However saying thousands of Indonesians may have H1N1, seems to be a little to much ?

Millions of Muslims make the Hajj every year; even 10,000 flu cases would only be less than a 1% attack rate. Saudi Arabia is in the northern hemisphere; it is winter. Wouldn't surprise me at all to have a large H1N1 outbreak in the Hajj.

An H5N1 case, however, would be a global emergency. But I don't think that is what is suspected this time.
