THL: Finland seeing increasing number of enterovirus infections
Finland's public health authority noted that 217 laboratory-confirmed enterovirus cases have been reported so far this year, compared to a total of 243 cases for the entirety of last year.

...Although most of the cases are mild, some children have been hospitalised in Turku due to shortness of breath.

"These patients have been diagnosed with enterovirus D 68, which usually only causes mild respiratory symptoms, but sometimes also shortness of breath or pneumonia," the THL press release stated.

Enterovirus infections are usually mild, with patients normally recovering naturally within 1–2 weeks. However, Finland sees a small number of cases every year with more serious symptoms, with children most commonly affected, although symptoms also occur in adolescents and adults...
