MILWAUKEE —
The Milwaukee Health Department confirmed a third case of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 in Wisconsin.
The case was discovered in a lab test on Jan. 28.
The announcement was made Tuesday moring.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has not commented on the variant strain of SARS-CoV-2 in Milwaukee.
The first case was found last month in Eau Claire County.
The particular variant, referred to as B.1.1.7, was first discovered circulating widely in England last November.
Director of Medical Services of the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management Dr. Ben Weston said the U.K. variant of COVID-19 will be the dominant strain across the country in the coming weeks.
State health officials said last week the second case of the variant was found in Waukesha County.
The first patient had recently traveled abroad.
It's not clear whether the second and third patients had recently traveled.
