Thieves steal truck with H1N1 vaccine in Milwaukee


MILWAUKEE ? Police and health officials say a refrigerated truck carrying H1N1 vaccine has been recovered after being stolen from outside a swine flu clinic in Milwaukee.

Health operators officer Raquel Filmanowicz of the city?s health department says the truck was taken from the Sarah Scott Middle School after a clinic there closed Thursday.

Filmanowicz says she doesn?t know how much vaccine was in the truck, but that it was ?compromised? in the theft and can no longer be administered. She doesn?t know if the thieves were aware the truck contained H1N1 vaccine.

Milwaukee police media officer Anne E. Schwartz says the truck was later recovered and an investigation is ongoing.

It?s unclear if a clinic planned at the South Division High School will go ahead Friday.

MILWAUKEE: Milwaukee police have arrested a man accused of stealing a truck carrying 900 doses of swine flu vaccine.

The suspect is a 38-year-old man with a criminal record. Police are looking for two other men who were seen in the vehicle with him.

The truck was taken Thursday night as it idled outside a swine flu clinic.
Officers found the abandoned truck less than an hour later with the vaccine apparently intact. As they investigated, a witness pointed to the 38-year-old leaving a nearby liquor store and identified him as one of the three men in the truck.

City health official Raquel Filmanowicz says even if the vaccine hasn't been tampered with, it's still considered ''compromised'' because it was out of city possession. She says it can no longer be used.
