THERE IS CONCURRENT EPIDEMICS
At this time, in our country are being monitored simultaneous epidemics such as dengue, diarrhea and influenza-like illness (flu), according to Dr. Ivan Allende, director general of Health Surveillance.

Allende's latest report indicated that influenza A H1N1 occurred in January and noted that the epidemiological alert

for pandemic influenza has not yet been raised, but remains in force.

"Given the situation of pandemic persists worldwide and influenza activity in the region, because Brazil has recently been reported mortality associated with H1N1," we are still working on the health services network as if we were at the stage of mitigation of the epidemic, "he said. This means capturing cases of acute respiratory infections, prevent the spread of these cases to serious and possibly prevent the deaths, said epidemiologist.

For his part, Deputy Health Minister Edgar Gimenez, said that "a characteristic of our country is that respiratory diseases are no longer only in winter but throughout the year." He added that since last year has been verified circulation of respiratory viruses during periods of summer, something that previously was not usual.

On Monday, the Health Ministry is planning the launch of the 2010 Winter Plan for the management of acute respiratory infections.
