Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Dec 3 (EFE) .- The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Government said today through a statement that the incidence rate of ILI in week 47 (from 22 to 28 November) was 226.91 cases per 100,000 population, representing a decrease from the previous week (where the rate was 372).

After reaching a rate of 372 per 100,000 in week 46/2009 and 392 per 100,000 in week 45/2009, at week 47 was observed a marked decrease in incidence rate (226.91 / 100,000).

The 5-14 age group remains the most affected, while also presenting a more pronounced reduction of the fee.

The percentage of influenza virus isolates in the samples collected was 75%, and 100% of them the new virus.EFE

Canary Islands Government recommends vaccination to persons included in the target population
LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, 8 Dec. (EUROPA PRESS) --

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Government, through the Technical Advisory Subcommittee, a body constituted by the Ministry and chaired by the Director General of Public Health, Enrique Torres, to oversee implementation of the measures taken in relation to the new flu pandemic A H1N1, has recommended vaccination for influenza A H1N1 to persons included in the target population.

The Technical Advisory Sub-Committee noted that public health actions in a pandemic are intended to slow the spread of the virus so that the occurrence of the maximum delay time and allow to implement measures that improve the ability to control, according to Today the regional government in a statement.

Thus, the objectives of pandemic vaccination strategy are to reduce mortality, reduce the number of severe cases and associated hospitalizations, reducing the risk of influenza transmission from health-risk patients and ensure they are delivered health services and essential services to the community.

For its part, the highest levels of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union (ECDE) have endorsed the influenza vaccination AH1N1 recognizing that is the best tool to prevent infection and it is fully safe and effective .

The vaccine has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) following the procedures and methods used repeatedly in the development of seasonal vaccination, so it was not necessary to repeat steps and processes already established, shortening the time of its development without impairing safety.

Also, the Technical Advisory Subcommittee indicated that more than 65 million people have been vaccinated in the world without serious reactions have occurred. The dissenting voices with vaccination does not provide scientific basis to support its opposition and knowledge of the procedure and method of preparation followed for the development of vaccines.

Given the high immunogenicity of pandemic vaccines and their safety, the vaccine advisory committee of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, recommends to the whole population included in the groups defined as targets, the need to vaccinate, as a fundamental to minimize the impact of the pandemic and prevent the spread of influenza A H1N1.
