ARTICLE T O THE E DITOR?Wu et al report serosurvey results performed on 3 cohorts (blood donors aged 16?65 years, hospital outpatients aged 5?59 years, and children aged 5?14 years) to estimate pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza attack rates (IARs) after the first pandemic wave in Hong Kong [ 1]. Their serosurvey incorporated 2 different study designs: the serial cross-sectional method (estimating IARs by subtracting prepandemic from postpandemic seroprevalence rates) and demonstration of individual seroconversion in paired serum samples. Microneutralization was performed using influenza A/California/4/2009 as antigen, and seropositivity was defined as microneutralization antibody titers ≥1:40 or the demonstration of a 4-fold or greater difference between paired serum samples.
