...In my previous article on this subject, I argued that Science-Based Medicine has not lived up to its ideals of rigorous science communication during a recent controversy over Abigail Shrier’s Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters that culminated in the retraction of a positive review by Harriet Hall (reposted here) and a four-part followup series criticizing the book. That article offered an in-depth criticism of the introductory post in SBM’s series, authored by the site’s founder and executive editor, Steven Novella, and its managing editor, David Gorski.

That post also included a lot of important background information that I am not going to repeat here, so if you’re confused, start there. This time around, I’ll be critiquing the middle two of SBM’s four articles in this series: “Abigail Shrier’s Irreversible Damage: A Wealth of Irreversible Misinformation” by Rose Lovell and “Irreversible Damage to the Trans Community: A Critical Review of Abigail Shrier’s Irreversible Damage (Part One)” by AJ Eckert. Part Two of that second post, which I believe will wrap up this series, just went live as I was finishing this article, and for reasons that will soon become apparent, I don’t think I have it in me to respond to that one, though we’ll see...
