Excerpt:

Director-General of the Department of Disease Control Dr Sophon Mekthon pointed out that MERS-CoV entails similar symptoms to those of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and is airborne and highly contagious. However, despite the emergence of new cases in South Korea, he insisted that the spread is occurring within a limited scope while indicating slim chances for the virus to reach Thailand.

Due to a large number of travelers in the Kingdom, Dr Sophon said preventive measures against a possible outbreak have been put in place so as to not underestimate the situation. He also advised all Thais planning overseas trips to stave off infections by strictly following sanitary practices. Anyone developing suspicious symptoms can contact the Department of Disease Control at hotline number 1422.
