He said officials from the DES Ministry and the Royal Thai Police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) obtained court warrants to search 15 locations and found six suspected cases related to fake news that have been causing fear and confusion.

BANGKOK: Thailand has seen its first case of human-to-human transmission of the new coronavirus inside the country, a health official said on Friday (Jan 31), as it raised its total number of cases to 19, the second-highest after China.

The first patient to contract the virus inside Thailand is a Thai taxi driver, said Tanarak Pipat, deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control.

"(He) ...does not have the record of travelling to China, and it is likely that he was infected (by) a sick traveller from China," Tanarak said.

Seven of Thailand's 19 cases have recovered and gone home while 12 are still being treated at hospitals.

Thai doctors have declared the use of anti-flu and AIDS drugs a success in reducing symptoms of coronavirus patients after using them on a Chinese woman.

Two doctors from Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok — Dr Kriangsak Atipornwanich, an expert physician, and Assoc Prof Dr Subsai Kongsangdao, a specialist — said at a briefing in Bangkok that improvements were seen in the 71-year-old woman 48 hours after administering the two groups of medications.

The woman was admitted first to Hua Hin Hospital and then transferred to Rajavithi Hospital on Jan 29.

After finding she had serious symptoms, the doctors decided to use oseltamivir, an anti-flu drug used to treat the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS), as well as lopinavir and ritonavir, two AIDS drugs...

Thailand said it detected six more novel coronavirus cases, taking the total to 25, and that one of the people is seriously ill.
Four of the new cases are in Thais, and the other two are Chinese, Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director general of the Department of Disease Control, said in a briefing Tuesday in Bangkok.

Among the four Thais, two are hire-car drivers who picked up Chinese passengers, and the other two are a couple who recently returned from a trip to Japan, Suwannachai said.
One of the new Thai cases is a 70-year-old who has pneumonia as well as the corornavirus infection and is in a serious condition, the disease control official added.

Seventeen of the overall 25 cases remain hospitalized. Thailand’s confirmed case count is currently the highest outside China.

Thailand reported more cases of human-to-human transmission of coronavirus with six people -- four Thais and two Chinese tourists -- the latest found to be infected, Thai health officials said on Tuesday.

"The country is now in the stage of disease transmission. Since they are staying in places full of foreign visitors, tourists are likely to be in areas of disease transmission," said Dr Tanarak Plipat, deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department.

He was speaking after health authorities contacted Seoul for information about a Korean woman found infected with novel coronavirus on her return from Thailand despite having never visited China.

Dr Tanarak said that authorities were informed of the case in South Korea and were seeking details of her test results, condition and where she had visited in Thailand...

HIGHLIGHTS

As of 6 February 2020, 25 laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV cases have been reported by health authorities in Thailand, most of them persons from China, including Wuhan city of Hubei Province, who visited Thailand.

Besides these cases, 595 persons in Thailand have been under investigation for 2019-nCoV, with tests still being carried out on the majority of them, while others have been treated for symptoms and discharged.

The confirmed cases of Thai nationals include two taxi drivers who likely came into contact with infected passengers from China. One of these men has been released from hospital and appeared at a press conference with the Thai Ministry of Public Health to share his experience. The Thai authorities are conducting a hygiene and safety campaign aimed at citizens (including taxi drivers) who come into close contact with international visitors or who otherwise operate in crowded environments.

There are also two Thai nationals who traveled to Japan and displayed symptoms after returning to Thailand, but health authorities say it’s as yet unclear where they acquired their infection.

A confirmed case in the Republic of Korea had travelled to Thailand prior to onset of illness and diagnosis. The timeline in this case suggests it is possible infection could have been acquired in either Thailand or in the Republic of Korea after the person returned home...

Thailand’s public health ministry reported seven new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, including three Thais and four Chinese. The new cases brought the total reported in the country to 32, among the world’s highest number of infections outside
China

“The seven new cases are all in hospital,” said Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director general of the Disease Control Department.
One of the Thai cases was part of the group of 138 evacuated from the coronavirus epicentre of Wuhan on Tuesday, Suwannachai told reporters.

The other two Thais had exposure to tourists, he said.

Among the four Chinese, three are members of the families of previously reported cases, while the other is a tourist from a “risky area” in China, said Suwannachai.

HIGHLIGHTS

Today, 8 February, the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand announced seven more laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV cases, bringing the total of confirmed cases in Thailand so far to 32.

Of the new cases reported, three are Thai nationals and four are visitors from China to Thailand.

This makes it a total of 23 Chinese visitors and 9 Thai nationals confirmed with novel coronavirus infection to date in Thailand...
