Bangkok:- Dengue fever has already hit more than 3,700 people and caused three deaths in Thailand this year.
Of all provinces, Rayong, Samut Songkhram, Krabi, Nakhon Pathom and Phet Buri have reported the highest number of dengue-fever incidences between January 1 and March 1...

Residents warned about dengue fever outbreak

...According to the Department's weekly disease monitoring report, an outbreak tends to occur due to frequent rainfall, causing water-logging where Aedes mosquitoes, carriers of dengue fever, lay their eggs.

Last week, over 3,000 people were reportedly infected by the virus, three of whom died, one each from Pathum Thani, Ratchaburi and Phetchaburi provinces.

This brings this year's total number of infections to 42,900 and 35 deaths...

...Five provinces: Rayong, Trat, Petchaburi, Tak and Ang Thong, are where the virus tends to be found, said the Department.

Cases of dengue fever set to double this year

Dr Narong Sahamethapat said 80 percent of dengue cases are caused by bites from striped or Asian Tiger mosquitos. And people who have already had dengue run the risk of a repeat attack if they are bitten by the striped mosquito.
Up to August 18, 51,500 people were infected with dengue, double the number registered for the same period last year. Of that number, 37 people had died.
