3-year-old dies; 2 more children found with hand, foot and mouth disease

BANGKOK, 10 January 2014 (NNT) ? The Ministry of Public Health has dispatched health officials to schools and communities where hand-foot-and-mouth disease was reported on Thursday. Meanwhile a kindergartner in Bangkok has succumbed to the disease.

According to the ministry, 2 more children have been diagnosed with the disease. Their conditions were not serious..

...3 people lost their lives to the disease in 2013, out of a total of 44,594 patients. The strains found in Thailand can cause complications such as brain stem encephalitis, abnormal heart function, and heart failure.

DCD warns against HFMD outbreaks during rainy season

BANGKOK, 6 June 2014 (NNT) - The Disease Control Department has warned parents of new Hand, Foot and Mouth disease outbreaks, which are set to spread during the upcoming rainy season.

The HFMD outbreaks occur all year round but the largest number of cases is reported during the rainy season. In March and April of this year alone, the rate of infection was nearly twice as high as that reported during the same period last year.

It is expected that from May onwards, the number of HFMD cases could jump to as high as 5,500, especially during the peak month of July.

Since the beginning of this year, almost 14,000 cases have been reported, or at the rate of 21.49 cases per 100,000 population. However, no deaths have been reported so far. Most HFMD cases were found in Mae Hong Son and Phetchaburi...

Public health: Parents should be aware of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease

BANGKOK, 18 June 2014 (NNT)- Public Health offices all over the country have been alerted to the spread of hand, foot and mouth disease during the rainy season especially in nursery centers and kindergartens.

The warning was issued after reports revealing a total of more than 11,000 people were infected across the country in just five months...

Ministry of Public Health: Parents warned of hand, foot and mouth disease

BANGKOK, 10 July 2014 (NNT) ? Parents and kindergarten staff are warned to be prepared for increasing outbreaks of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) during the rainy season, according to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) Narong Sahametapat.

From January 1st to June 29th, 2014, out of the 23,671 patients nationwide, 80 percent were children aged below three, but no fatal case was reported among patients, the Bureau of Epidemiology has advised. Parents and babysitters are advised to clean devices and toys that are shared by children, focus on having hot meals, washing hands regularly, and using serving spoons at meal times...

34,000 cases of HFMD reported in Thailand so far

BANGKOK, 24 July 2014 (NNT) ? The Ministry of Public Health stated that 34,000 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) have been reported in Thailand so far this year.

Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr. Narong Saha-methapat said the figure is rising every year despite tighter surveillance, control, and treatment of HFMD across the country. Cases have been detected in all provinces of the kingdom...

HFMD affects thousands of kids

The Disease Control Department yesterday revealed that 34,834 children had suffered hand, foot and mouth disease between January 1 and July 20 but there was no serious outbreak or deaths.

The department's chief Dr Sophon Mekthon warned that the disease would still be an issue until next month, especially when children mingled with other kids at school and during the rainy season - with the most-at-risk group one to three-year-olds.

The provinces with the highest HFMD prevalence per 100,000 people are Trat (179.54), Rayong (165.33), Chiang Rai (120.51), Prachuap Khiri Khan (101.38) and Chanthaburi (99.95)...

HFM Cases In Bangkok Double This Year

BANGKOK, July 30 (Bernama) -- Cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFM) in Bangkok rose to 4,695 in the first seven months this year with 85 percent children aged under five.

The number of HFM cases in the capital city from January to July was twice of that reported in the same period last year, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported...
