BANGKOK, 7 July 2013 (NNT) - Dengue situation in Northeastern part of Thailand is exacerbating as over 5,400 people in 4 provinces have now been infected with dengue virus. The virus has, this year, killed 5 patients in those provinces.

According to the Public Health Ministry, over 5,400 people have been infected with the deadly dengue virus in 4 northeastern provinces, including Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Buriram, and Surin. Five of those patients have already been killed by the virus...

There have been 59,318 dengue fever cases and 68 deaths reported throughout the country so far this year. In the past week, 5,276 new cases and six deaths were recorded, with the highest concentration of cases in the northern region, according to state broadcaster MCOT...

Ministry declares war on dengue

With the dengue death toll already hitting 71 this year, the Public Health Ministry is fighting back to stop the spread of the Aedes mosquitoes that carry the disease.

"I have instructed all provincial public-health chiefs to closely monitor the operations to eradicate mosquito larvae at schools and hospitals," Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong said yesterday.

As of last Tuesday, the dengue outbreak had struck 67,889 people and showed no signs of abating.

From July 3-9, new cases surged 30 per cent to 8,571 from the previous week.

Chiang Mai faces dengue fever crisis

CHIANG MAI, 22 July 2013 (NNT) - The outbreak of dengue fever is raising concerns among health experts in Chiang Mai, given nearly 6,000 people have been afflicted by the disease in the province since the beginning of this year.

The Chiang Mai provincial health unit said a total of 5,977 cases of dengue fever have been reported in the area, with five fatalities so far. The number of dengue patients is on the rise at an alarming rate, from 140 in January to 3,059 in June.

In June of last year, only 170 people were infected by the virus...

Dengue death toll reaches 78 in Thailand

BANGKOK, 29 July 2013 (NNT) - The Public Health Ministry is fighting a sharp upsurge in dengue fever as the disease has killed nearly 80 people from across the country.

So far this year, 81,763 dengue fever cases have been recorded in Thailand, with the highest concentration of cases in the northern province of Chiang Mai. During the past week, the province saw 6,284 people infected by the virus.

Dengue fever claims 83 fatalities

A number of 87,533 Thais were infected by dengue fever during January-July, according to the Public Health Ministry.

The fever has claimed 83 fatalities so far or 0.09 per cent of patients, mostly those who suffer from chronic diseases.

The number of cases in July alone hit 5,770.
