San Marcos, TX -

Social activities at Texas State University - San Marcos have been put on hold -- because of a possible H1N1 Swine Flu outbreak on campus.

According to a press release posted on the school's Web site, one sorority on campus reported an outbreak of flu-like illness and two others reported isolated cases of the flu. The report indicates that these cases were mild to moderate and those affected experienced a quick recovery.

In the releaes, university officials said that they met with Greek associations on campus and asked for a halt to large social activities. An article in the University Star, the university's newspaper, stated that a student organization fair scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of this week were put on hold due to the outbreak.

The paper spoke with Dr. Emilio Carranco, with the Student Health Center, who said social isolation is the best way to combat Swine Flu.

The school says it has a pandemic plan and will follow recommendations outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the press release, classes and other activities will go on as planned.
