A San Antonio man suffering from flu-like symptoms dies less than twenty-four hours after checking into the hospital.

Family members of 26-year-old Juan Armando Cruz say the young father died of complications from pneumonia last Thursday.

Cruz had been feeling sick for several days when he went to the emergency room at Southwest General Hospital on New Year?s Day.

"He was so healthy, so young," said mother-in-law Victoria Ortiz. "We thought they would give him medicine and he'd come home. But it didn't happen like that."

...Lacy Sanders, the county's disease surveillance coordinator, said the infant was female and two weeks old.

Sanders said the infant died at McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White in Temple sometime last week.

Sanders said the baby was born health, went home and went back to the doctor and was admitted into the hospital for the illness.

The infant tested positive for H1N1...

McALLEN ? Influenza is on the rise across the state, and Hidalgo County is witnessing the deadly consequences.

As of Thursday, Hidalgo County Health and Human Services reported six people have died, including a 7-year-old, from the H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu.

?While the deaths are certainly tragic, the number of cases falls within the average range of annual fatalities during flu season,? an HHS statement says.

The five adults had pre-existing medical conditions, such as morbid obesity and diabetes, that made them more vulnerable, officials said. The number of deaths from flu in the county can usually range between 11 and 137...

On Saturday, doctors at Charlton Methodist Hospital diagnosed Alice with influenza.

?It was strains A and B,? Jones said. ?Sunday evening, she started breathing hard."

By Monday morning, feeling worse, Alice ended up at University General Hospital on South Hampton Road, her husband said.

As a technician took Alice to undergo a CT scan, "she coded," Darrell said.

Hours later, the 29-year-old woman, who had no underlying medical conditions, was dead.

Darrell said he didn?t think his wife got a flu shot last fall...

...Two children are among the 19 flu-related deaths in North Texas this season. One of them was 13-year-old Lynda Kizziar who passed away Saturday at Children's Medical Center in Plano. She lived in Carrollton but was a seventh grader at Founders Classical Academy in Lewisville...

The onset of flu season was late in Wise County, but the virus has already infected large numbers and appears to be responsible for the death of one man.

?We?ve had one death, a gentleman in his early 40s who appeared to have died from flu-like symptoms,? said Lee Ann Cummings, registered nurse and emergency room director of Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.

CORPUS CHRISTI - San Patricio County Health Authority Dr. Mobley confirms three people have died as a result of the flu in his area. As a result of these cases and the increase in cases across the stat, officials are working on a mass immunization clinic.

Dr. Mobley can only tell us limited information on the patients for confidentiality reasons.

The first is a 2-year-old child who died on December 20th. The other deaths were an adult male and an adult female.
