The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local public health officials are investigating H1N1 influenza cases in people in several U.S. states, including Texas. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the infection and whether additional people have been infected with H1N1 influenza viruses.
Following similar actions by the WHO and CDC, DSHS will discontinue reporting novel H1N1 flu cases effective Aug. 1. Individual case reporting is resource-intensive, and because people with respiratory illnesses now are not always tested for flu, case counts represent a significant underestimate of the true number of novel H1N1 flu cases in Texas. Texas is returning to using its standard seasonal flu surveillance network to track and report flu activity.
They deleted the link to their case counts and deaths. Now they only have a link to their most recent surveillance report. The current report listed is for Week 29. The report doesn't indicate the number of hospitalizations or deaths.
So, it looks like we'll be relying solely on media reports or County DoH websites for information from Texas.
