Travis County baby is state?s first pertussis death this year

After a year that marked the state?s worst whooping cough outbreak since 1959, a Travis County infant too young to be vaccinated has died of the highly contagious disease, the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department said Wednesday.

The baby?s death is the first in Texas this year from whooping cough, or pertussis, and the first in Travis County since 2003 when 27-day-old Serena King died before she could be vaccinated...

Whooping cough on the rise in Bell County

TEMPLE ? In the past couple of weeks, Bell County has seen a slight increase in cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

Six cases were reported recently, said Lacey Sanders, disease surveillance coordinator for the Bell County Health District.
