Reports were received from all Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 24. . HSRs 1, 4/5N, 7, 9/10, and 11 reported the same level of flu activity compared to week 23. HSRs 2/3, 6/5S, and 8 reported a decreased level of flu activity compared to week 23.

During week 32 in Texas:

No specimens tested by NREVSS laboratories in Texas were positive for influenza; however, the DSHS Austin Laboratory reported a PCR positive result for influenza A (H3N2) from a flu specimen submitted by a provider in Dallas County. The patient developed flu-like symptoms on the return flight from a 7-day trip to Honduras.

? One (2.8%) specimen tested by NREVSS laboratories in Texas was positive for influenza A (not subtyped). The DSHS Austin Laboratory also reported a positive PCR test for influenza B from a specimen submitted by a Travis County provider. The patient had no history of international travel in the week prior to onset; however, the patient had contact with some Texas residents with symptoms of influenza-like illness prior to onset.

Week 37:
One new postpartum death. The woman was a resident of HSR 7 and was less than 1 week postpartum when her onset of respiratory symptoms occurred.

Two (0.99%) specimens tested by NREVSS laboratories in Texas were positive for influenza A; one of these was collected from a Texas resident returning from Germany and was identified as 2009 influenza A (H1N1) by PCR testing.

The percentage of visits for influenza-like illness as reported by ILINet providers in Texas was below the regional baseline.

Reports were received from all Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 37. HSR 7 reported an increased level of flu activity compared to week 36. HSRs 2/3, 4/5N, 6/5S, 8, 9/10, and 11 reported the same level of flu activity compared to week 36. HSR 1 did not determine a flu activity level for week 37 compared to week 36.

During week 37, eight hospital laboratories and public health agencies across Texas reported conducting a total of 202 influenza tests (antigen, culture, and PCR) to the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS) sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Forty-seven percent of the influenza tests reported to NREVSS were antigen detection tests; these tests cannot identify the subtype of influenza detected...
