The percentage of visits for influenza-like illness as reported by ILINet providers in Texas was below the regional baseline during week 52.

No influenza A (H3N2) viruses from Texas have been characterized since April 15, 2009. One seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus from Texas has been characterized as A/Brisbane/59/2007-like (H1N1), the influenza A/H1 component of the 2009-2010 seasonal influenza vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere. No influenza B viruses from Texas have been characterized since April 15, 2009.

Reports were received from all Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 2. HSRs 1 and 9/10 reported an increased level of flu activity compared to week 1. HSRs 2/3, 4/5N, 6/5S, 7, and 11 reported the same level of flu activity compared to week 1. HSR 8 reported a decreased level of flu activity compared to week 1.

No influenza A (H3N2) viruses from Texas have been characterized since April 15, 2009.

HSR 11 reported an increased level of flu activity compared to week 8. All other HSRs reported the same level of flu activity compared to week 8.

Influenza outbreaks were reported in two Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional units in HSR 4/5N and one in HSR 6/5S; novel influenza A (H1N1) was confirmed in these outbreaks via PCR testing. Eight other units also reported ILI activity with confirmed influenza in two of those units.
