The percentage of patients with ILI reported in Week 46 was 0.54% as compared to 0.41% in Week 45. To date, 62 specimens from Week 46 have been tested; two (3.2%) were positive for influenza A(H1N1), one each from Davidson and Rutherford counties. Several others were positive for other respiratory viruses, predominately rhinovirus.

The chart shows Tennessee has 5 positive specimens for this season and all are Flu A (H1N1). One in week 44, two in week 45 and two in week 46.

The percentage of patients with ILI reported in Week 47 was 0.85% as compared to 0.55% in Week 46.

To date, 54 specimens from Week 47 have been tested; 4 were positive for influenza A(H1N1). Several others were positive for other respiratory viruses, predominately rhinovirus.

tested; seven (12.7%) were positive for influenza A(H1N1). Several others were positive for other respiratory viruses.

Seasonal Influenza in TN:
Influenza activity in TN is beginning to show a steady, gradual rise, suggesting that the annual seasonal wave of influenza has begun.

The percentage of patients with ILI reported in Week 49 was 1.80% as compared to 1.34% in Week 48.

To date, 92 specimens from Week 49 have been tested; 26 (31.5%) were positive for influenza viruses. Nationally, the CDC reports influenza is currently most active in the Southeastern US, with type A H1N1 as the predominant strain.

Tennessee has received reports of 4 cases of influenza‐related deaths in children.

The percentage of patients with ILI reported in Week 2 was 6.40% as compared to 6.62% in Week 1. To date, 246 specimens from Week 2 have been tested; 51 (20.1%) were positive for influenza viruses, all A(H1N1).

Correction of Week 52 and Week 1 Reports:
A system error in the creation of this report misclassified some Type A(H1N1)
specimens as A(H3) in recent reports' results table and graphs. Past reports have been corrected on our website; this report reflects the correct results.

Note: The 1 death reported by the CDC this week was among the 4 reported by Tennessee last week.

Tennessee notes this week there is one pregnant woman among the moralities.

Higher proportion of flu hospitalizations among young:
Although overall influenza activity to date is lower than the 2012‐2013 season, CDC reports that between Oct. 1, 2013 and Jan. 11, 2014, 61% of laboratory‐confirmed influenza‐associated hospitalizations in the US have been among persons aged 18‐64 years. During a typical influenza season, the majority (50‐60%) of hospitalizations are in persons older than 64. This pattern is consistent with the 2009‐2010 season when this season's dominant H1N1 strain first emerged.

The percentage of patients with ILI reported in Week 3 was 5.34% as compared to 5.85% in Week 2. To date, 168 specimens from Week 3 have been tested; 24 (14.2%) were positive for influenza viruses, all A(H1N1).

The percentage of patients with ILI reported in Week 4 was 4.30% as compared to 5.08% in Week 3. To date, 141 specimens from Week 4 have been tested; 13 (9.2%) were positive for influenza viruses, all A(H1N1).
