Teen defies odds after doctors deemed her 'polio-like' illness fatal

(WMC-TV) - Doctors diagnosed a child years ago with an illness that has polio-like symptoms. They said she would not make it past her 18th birthday.
But at 18 and alive, she shares her story.
Currently she remains paralyzed waist down with only partial use of her hands and limbs, but she is also an "A" student in college.

Oral polio vaccines have not been used in the United States since 2000 but are still used in many parts of the world. The vaccine now used has never been known to cause any serious problems, according to the CDC.
