This is a site that was created when she was sick. It just breaks my heart. :(

Background Story

Taylor has tested positive for the H1N1 virus (swine flu). Although it is unknown why her case progressed to the critical level, her doctor seems to think that it simply masked itself in her system and was undetected.
She began running fever, with cold like symptoms. She tested positive for strep throat, was given antibiotics, and expected to be fine. Her illness continually worsened after this so she went back to the doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis. The day after this, she began vomiting violently and her fever spiked. She was admitted to the Baton Rouge General for pneumonia, which we now know was caused by the H1N1 virus.
Taylor was moved to ICU and placed on a repatory ventilator and breathing tubes after she was unable to oxygenate her body above 50%. She's gradually improving, but we can only take it one day at a time. Taylor is a strong girl, and with God's healing hands, she will fight this. Please pray for her. She is being cared for by a great team at the General, and we thank them as well as our awesome friends and family who are praying for Taylor's recovery.

Wow, this hits close to home for me. My sister-in-law, niece (10), and nephew (15) live in that area.

I really hate to hear about the death of someone so young. :(

This makes me cry, as does the death of the 10-year old boy in Alaska. Really brings it home just what we're in for:(

Her parents seem like good, trusting people, but I do think the doctors dropped the ball early on. I've never heard of the virus "masking itself," unless by that the doctors simply mean that they misdiagnosed her initially.

Very sad!

Did they try ECMO or IV Relenza on her? Aren't those minimum things that they should be doing now in critical cases such as this?

Has the IV Relenza been approved for use in U.S.? I wonder the exact time frame in days this occurred? It makes me very sad, too many children.
