KAHAMA, Tanzania, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least five people have been killed by cholera and 452 others are under quarantine for observation in Kahama district in Shinyanga region in northwestern Tanzania, an official said on Friday.

Mboni Mhita, commissioner of the Kahama district, said 452 patients with symptoms of the disease have been put under quarantine in two isolated health centers of Mwendakulima and Kagongwa for observation.​..

​KAGERA: BUKOBA District Commissioner (DC) Mr Erasto Sima has said that four patients have been confirmed to have contracted cholera in Bukoba Municipality and admitted to Nshambya District Hospital for treatment.

He appealed to citizens to take precautionary measures, including washing hands with soap, before taking any meal and doing the same after using toilet.

He has as well called upon residents in Bukoba Municipal Council to ensure they boil or treat drinking water.

“The first cholera patient was reported on January 4, this year in Bakoba Ward’s Kafuti Street while three other patients were reported from different areas while the fourth patient was reported on Thursday at Kibeta Ward,” he said.​..

Cholera outbreak reported in Goziba Island

KAGERA: KAGERA Region has formed a task force to closely monitor and take necessary steps to control the Cholera disease that has been reported on Goziba Island in Muleba District, with several patients admitted to the hospital.

Speaking at a Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) meeting, Kagera Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Dr Toba Nguvila, emphasized the urgent need for action to control the epidemic.

The number of patients confirmed to have contracted cholera in Bukoba Municipal has increased to 16, with two reported deaths.

The first cholera patient was reported on January 4th of this year in Bakoba Ward’s Kafuti Street, while other patients were reported from different areas. About 11 patients were treated and discharged, while two patients were admitted to Nshambya District Hospital for treatment,” he said.

In December of last year, the number of patients confirmed to have contracted cholera in Missenyi District increased to seven, with four confirmed deaths.

Four people died of the epidemic on November 29th of last year in Bugorora Ward’s Buchurago village in Missenyi District, while five patients were previously admitted to St. Therese Omukajunguti Hospital.

​ A TOTAL of 113 deaths and 7,190 other cases of cholera infection m have been recorded in the country from January to October, the government has stated.

Dr Vida Mmbaga, the Health ministry assistant director of preventive services, made this affirmation in Dar es Salaam over the weekend at a training session for religious leaders on infectious disease prevention, especially cholera, mpox and narburg.

All regions except Njombe, Iringa and Kilimanjaro had reported cases of cholera infection, she said, noting that no cases of mpox or marburg had been reported countrywide...

Cholera outbreak in Ikungi kills five, affects 500 in three months

​ FIVE people have died and over 500 hospitalised in special treatment camps in the Ikungi District, Singida Region due to a cholera outbreak that began in July and continued through October.

Dr Emanueli Kikoti, Ikungi District acting medical officer told journalists here yesterday that the cases are high in Kaugeri, Mduguyu and Ufana Villages.

In response to the outbreak, the local government established special treatment camps in these areas as a precautionary measure.

According to Dr Kikoti, of the 500 patients diagnosed since the outbreak began, three have succumbed to the disease.​..
