NEWSROOM (ADV) ? Tanzania on Thursday confirmed an outbreak of dengue fever, saying the business capital, Dar es Salaam, has reported 252 cases.

Deputy Minister for Health Faustine Ndungulile confirmed that there was an outbreak of dengue fever in Dar es Salaam and the Indian Ocean coastal region of Tanga, where there were 55 diagnosed cases.

?All the 252 patients in Dar es Salaam are receiving treatment, and no fatality has been reported until now,? he told a news conference in the capital, Dodoma.

Medical authorities are monitoring cases of the disease throughout the country with a population of 55 million people, Ndungulile said.

On March 18, 2018, Tanzania confirmed the outbreak of dengue fever, saying 11 people were diagnosed with the disease in Dar es Salaam.

The worst dengue outbreak in Tanzania was in 2014 when more than 400 people in Dar es Salaam were diagnosed with the disease, which killed at least three, including a doctor who reportedly caught it while attending to patients...

Dengue fever outbreak confirmed in Tanzania

Tanzanian authorities have announced an outbreak of the mosquito-borne dengue fever in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam and Tanga region along the coast.

Speaking to a local Tanzanian newspaper, The Citizen, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Faustine Ndugulile, said Dar es Salaam and Tanga regions have been found to have the disease.

?Dengue fever is here. We have started diagnosing some people, who suffered from the disease in Dar and Tanga regions. However, we are yet to receive any death as so far we have at least 200 patients in Dar es Salaam.?

The health minister also confirmed that there were 55 diagnosed cases in Tanga.

Tanzania working to control spread of dengue fever as cases rise to over 1,000: minister

DAR ES SALAAM, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian authorities said on Monday they were working hard to control a further spread of dengue fever which has killed two people as confirmed cases rose from 307 in April to 1,122 by last week.

"It's unfortunate that two people have been killed by the disease. Authorities are working hard to make sure that there are no more deaths and the number of cases does not rise," Ummy Mwalimu, the Minister for Health, told Xinhua in an interview.

Mwalimu said most of the cases were confirmed in Dar es Salaam's municipalities of Ilala, Temeke, Kinondoni and Ubungo followed by Tanga region and one case has been reported in Singida region in central Tanzania.

She said Dar es Salaam authorities have formed a special committee dealing with raising awareness of the disease, setting up laboratories and treatment to affected people...

Tanzania: Anti-Dengue Fever Battle Heightened

IN concerted efforts to fight the mosquito-borne dengue fever, the government has ordered eight fumigation machines which will be used for spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes and mosquito larvae.

The Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, also directed all Regional Medical Officers (RMOs) to take measures for preventing Aedes mosquitoes which spread the disease...

...The minister asked RMOs to spray biolarvicides in order to kill mosquitoes. On June 21, Ms Mwalimu issued a report in parliament on the state of the disease in the country, saying the government had decided that screening and diagnosis for dengue fever would be provided freely at all public hospitals.

"So far, as of June 19, 2019," the minister said, "there were 4,320 patients, who had been diagnosed with Dengue fever, while those who died from the disease were four."

In April this year, the government announced an outbreak of the mosquito-borne dengue fever in Dar es Salaam and Tanga regions.

The disease further spread into other regions, but until yesterday, Dar es Salaam had the highest number of patients (4,029) and three deaths.

DAR ES SALAAM, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian health authorities said on Thursday that cases of dengue fever in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam have gone down from 2,759 reported in May to 790 in June.

Ummy Mwalimu, the east African nation's Minister for Health, said great efforts had been made to contain the disease in Dar es Salaam and that the number of patients suffering from the disease had substantially gone down.

She said the government has drawn up an ambitious national plan of destroying mosquito breeding grounds in residential areas to control the spread of malaria disease and the outbreak of dengue fever...

(MENAFN - Trend News Agency) As many as 13 people in Tanzania have died as a result of a dengue fever, while 6,677 people are infected with the virus across the country, Tanzanian Minister of Health, Community Development, Gender, Seniors and Children Ummy Mwalimu said,Trendreports citing Sputnik.

"We had data on six deaths, but the government made a new assessment and got a death toll of 13 across the country. There are 6,631 cases of infection and 11 deaths in Dar es Salaam region alone," the minister said, as quoted by Mwananchi newspaper.

Meanwhile, according to the minister, the spread of the virus has slowed. There were 536 cases of infection with the dengue virus in June, while only six cases have been reported since early July...

Tanzania on track to control dengue fever outbreak: minister

DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Minister for Health, Ummy Mwalimu, said on Thursday the east African nation was on track to controlling the outbreak of dengue fever.

"In September 2019, there were only 10 reported cases of dengue fever in the country and nobody was killed by the disease during the month," she told a news conference in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

Since the outbreak of dengue fever was first reported in January 2019 to Sept. 30, 6,785 people were diagnosed with the disease across the country that killed 13 of them.

"But from July to September this year, cases of dengue fever are going down," said the minister.

Mwalimu said there were 732 cases of dengue fever in July and 92 cases were reported in August, dropping to 10 cases in September.

She said of the 10 cases, four were reported at the Muhimbili National Hospital, the country's leading medical referral facility in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, and six cases were reported in coastal city of Tanga.

"We are still working hard to control the disease and the figures can testify our efforts," said Mwalimu...
