Well, swine flu confirmed after visiting a chickenfarm, dual infection?

In case of a dual infection you can get a positive for H1N1 and a negative for H5N1 ? Or vice versa ?

Only by repeated tests you can confirm the dual infection ?

I think that the poultry is a coincidence and H1N1 is widespread in Indonesia (including Tangerang). I think he was infected by a person, and then he infected his family members.
Lack of response to Tamiflu could be due to late start or expired Tamiflu. Resistance is an outside chance.

Re: Tangerang veterinarian + family: A/H1N1 from birds?

We can speculate until kingdom come but without sequences we'll never know for sure. So Indonesia should do its duty as a WHO member and release bird flu and A/H1N1 sequences as soon as possible.

A friend reminds me about possibility of dual infection H1N1 and H5N1. From this report, we should consider about this possibility. In dual infection sometimes one virus may be dominating, and this can cause positive result to only one virus. I remember one isolate tested H1N1 2009 positive, but when we did the re-check, it was H3 positive and negative H1. Further check showed dual infection of H1N1 and H3N2.

Seeing the history of chicken farm visit, I hope the government will continue to a more detailed test for H5N1 (adm).

Certainly the possibility of a dual infection is there. IMO this needs to be watched very carefully.

Re: Tangerang veterinarian + family: A/H1N1 from birds?

I would agree. Any infection that put 4 familiy members in intensive care should be monitored closely. Whether the infection is H5N1 or H1N1 or heaven forbid, a duel infection or a Tamiflu resistant infection.

There has been ZERO evidence indicating this was anything other than a vet catching H1N1 from some unknown HUMAN contact and then passing on the H1N1 to his family members.
