Tangerang, Banten – About 250 senior citizens in South Tangerang, Banten, received influenza vaccination to anticipate both swine and bird flu infection.
“Senior citizens are susceptible to certain diseases, including swine and bird flu infections, so that they need vaccination to keep healthy and productive,” said the Head of Health Service South Tangerang, Dadang S, during his duty in monitoring the vaccination event on Senior Citizen Day XII in Tangerang, Saturday (6/6).
Dadang said, age over 40 is susceptible to swine or bird flu infection.
“Body defense of the elders are weaker, so they’re easier to catch infection. Vaccination is given to promote immunity to those deadly viruses,” said Dadang.
“Until now we haven’t found wither any one or elders who got infected by swine or bird flu virus,” he said.
Dadang also describes, even though no swine or bird flu cases found in the city, but early anticipation is necessary.
South Tangerang City authority, HM Saleh said that vaccination to senior citizens was one of regional government efforts to promote their immunity status.
Even though, he asked people to keep aware, because South Tangerang was one of stopping area of foreigner, so that it could be a location for infection to spread.
“There are many hotels for foreign tourists here. So, Tangerang people may get infection while interacting with the foreigners,” said Shaleh.
