Close on the heels of spread of viral fever, the health officials on Saturday collected blood samples from various patients at Naganur near Thogamalai.

The heath officials, who visited each and every house in Naganur and neighbouring villages, treated patients suffering from fever with cold and cough. A few patients found with acute fever have been referred to the government hospitals in Karur and Tiruchi.

Baby dies of mysterious fever

Even as two persons are undergoing treatment with symptoms of dengue at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH), a seven-month-old baby died at the hospital of mysterious fever on Thursday night.

10-yr-old dies of mysterious fever, villagers stage protest

MADURAI: A 10-year-old girl died after suffering from a mysterious fever near Rajapalayam on Wednesday night. Villagers alleged that no action was taken to prevent the spread of the disease and resorted to a road blockade on Thursday.

The girl identified as Kathiga, daughter of Uthandam of M R Nagar, was suffering from fever since the past one week. She was admitted to Rajapalayam Government Hospital and was later shifted to High Ground Hospital at Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district. The family saw little improvement in the girl's health and she succumbed to the sickness on Wednesday.

When contacted R Kanimozhi, deputy director of health services, ruled out that the girl died of dengue. She said the girl died of a viral fever, and they are keeping a check on the spread of the disease. They have been closely monitoring a school in the region, which had repeated reports of children suffering from fever. Eight children were found affected and the situation is now under control, said Kanimozhi.
