Two die of mysterious fever

Nagercoil: Two persons including a 6-year old girl died on Tuesday owing to mysterious fever in two private hospitals in Kanyakumari district.

According to sources, Rajkumar of Puliyavilai in Vadaserry near Nagercoil, working as a police personnel at Manimutharu special camp was affected with a mysterious fever and was admitted to a private hospital.

When his body was not responding to the treatment, he was admitted to the swine flu ward at Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam.

Samples of his blood and sputum were taken and sent to the King's Institute at Guindy for tests.

In the meantime he was again shifted to a private hospital where he died.

Similarly Nithiya (6) ? daughter of Johnson of Muhamathur Street at Thiruvithancode near Thuckalay was suffering from fever for the last one week.

She was admitted to a private hospital, where she died.

The district witnessed the death of eight persons so far within the short span of one month due to mysterious fever.

Preventive steps

Hence the district administration has been urged to take preventive steps to control the spread of this fever and create awareness among the people on how to prevent it particularly in the rural areas of the district.

Kanyakumari district prepared to tackle vector-borne diseases

Nagercoil: The officials of Department of Public Health have been geared up to monitor the outbreak of vector-borne diseases, particularly in the coastal areas of Kanyakumari district.

Collector Rajendra Ratnoo has directed Deputy Director of Public Health M.Madusoodhanan to set up ?health help desks' in the suspected areas to screen people and tourists for vector-borne diseases and refer them to nearest hospital if necessary.

As quite a large number of people in neighbouring Kerala was affected with diseases like mysterious fever, malaria, swine flu and dengue, the Department had already taken precautionary measures to prevent their spread.

Panels formed

Speaking to The Hindu, the Deputy Director said that Village Health Water Sanitation Committees had already been formed in all villages and town panchayats in order to create awareness among the people of vector-borne diseases by distributing pamphlets.

When some isolated cases of malaria, dengue and mysterious fever were reported from a few parts of the district, the employees of the Department rushed to the spot to provide treatment.

All primary health centres, taluk hospitals, government headquarter hospital and Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam have adequate stock of medicines to provide immediate treatment.

Member of Legislative Assembly from Thiruvattar Leema Rose was affected by a mysterious fever and admitted to a private hospital at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
