40 test positive for leptospirosis

TIRUVANNAMALAI: As many as 40 people of a village near here tested positive for leptospirosis and public health authorities are on a war-footing in treating the affected persons as well as to take preventive measures.
Since several cases of fever reported from Kamaraj Nagar of Then Mathur village, Deputy Director (Health) Dr. Deva Parthasarathi visited the village and posted a team of health officials to treat patients and take preventive measures. ?Study of blood samples collected from the villagers showed 40 persons to have infected from leptospirosis. We have initiated cleaning up and spraying operations in the village. Patients found to have infected from leptospirosis are being treated with a course of Doxy.
