"In Taiwan, a total of 684 notifiable infectious disease cases were reported last week, and among those 358 were acute and 326 were chronic; 19 cases died. As for the clustering on disease outbreaks, 5 outbreak events were reported (1 was Acute Hepatitis and 4 were Diarrhea).
Last week, 38 more confirmed cases of indigenous dengue fever broke out, a total of 843 indigenous dengue cases were confirmed, and 18.7% were geographically linked to Siaokang District and 32.6% in Cianjhen District, Kaohsiung City. As to the mosquito disease vector indices, those of Kaohsiung City and Tainan County are higher than others and all exceed the critical threshold.
International epidemic: Cholera, rabies, and yellow fever broke out last week in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Ivory Coast. Dengue Fever broke out in Southeast Asia countries. Taiwan CDC reminds all travelers to these areas to take adequate precaution and preventive measures.
In conclusion, according to Taiwan CDC surveillance data there were easing trend of the novel influenza A (H1N1) infections and indigenous dengue fever last week. However, the third wave of novel influenza A (H1N1) infections and the effect of slowly H1N1 vaccinated are unpredictable; health authorities should still take close attention on the epidemic situation.
