As autumn and winter come, an avian influenza epidemic occurs in China. A quail farm in Xikou, Chiayi was recently diagnosed with the H5N1 highly pathogenic virus, and 35,000 quails were culled. In fact, a wave of quails was culled at the beginning of the year, and they were infected again this year (2023). As overseas epidemics continue to occur, South Africa has culled 7.5 million laying hens and restricted or stopped the sale of eggs. An epidemic also occurred in Utah, USA, and was removed from the non-epidemic area by the National Defense and Inspection Administration.
The epidemic prevention personnel in full gear reached into the cage and moved the quails one by one into the sacks. The quail farm located at the mouth of the Chiayi River was recently diagnosed with the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus. More than 35,000 quails in the same building must be culled.
In fact, this quail farm also had an outbreak of confirmed cases in January, with more than 25,000 quails culled, and confirmed cases twice a year. Biosecurity measures need to be strengthened, and the prevention and control office requires strengthening disinfection and raising anti-bird fences.
Jiang Xinheng, a technician from the Poultry Epidemic Prevention Section of the Institute of Livestock Disease Prevention and Control, said, "Two bird flu epidemics have occurred at this farm in the past, and we once again call on poultry farms to pay attention to biosecurity measures."
The time sequence has entered autumn and winter, and there have been two sporadic confirmed cases of high-pathogens in China recently. We cannot take it lightly. The Ministry of Agriculture’s Prevention and Inspection Service pointed out that the epidemic situation in some European and American countries has not been interrupted. Recently, an epidemic occurred in a turkey farm in Utah, USA. It has announced that the state will be removed from the avian influenza-free area, and domestic poultry farms with repeated infections will also be updated. Strictly implement the recuperation procedure.
