In a ceremony at Santo Domingo International Airport Thursday afternoon, Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou officially handed over 10 tons of medicine, biscuits, milk powder and other supplies to Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive for the relief of refugees from the massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake that stuck the Caribbean nation, killing over 150,000.

The ceremony took place at in the presidential ``Salon Embajador`` in Santo Domingo International Airport in the Dominican Republic shortly after Ma and Bellerive held a 40 minute summit meeting to discuss methods and plans for cooperation between Taiwan and Haiti in future resettlement and reconstruction efforts.

When talking with accompanying Taiwan journalists Wednesday evening at the Hotel Real Intercontinental Tegucigalpa, Ma related that he had invited Haitian President Rene Preval to meet him in the Santo Domingo airport to discuss cooperation in post-earthquake assistance, but Preval indicated that he was too busy with the post - temblor crisis and sent Bellerive instead.

Ma met the Haitian prime minister shortly after hold an one - hour discussion with Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez at the Office of the President (Oficina de la Presidencia) in Santo Domingo.

Ma had been met by Deputy Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Tralloly after the chartered China Airlines Boeing 747-400 landed at the Aeropuerto Internacional Las Americas at 11:50 pm and whisked into the capital for the summit with Fernandez from 12:30 to 1:30 pm and returned to the airport at 1:50 pm for the summit with the Haitian prime minister.
