Taiwan up to 163 local dengue fever cases this year

​Taipei, May 1 (CNA) One new indigenous case of dengue fever was confirmed in Taiwan over the past week, bringing the total number to 163 as of April 29, the most to this point in the year since 2016, Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported Tuesday.

Eleven new cases of dengue fever were recorded in the week of April 23-29, but 10 of them were imported, CDC Deputy Director Lee Chia-lin (李佳琳) said at a news briefing.

Seven of them involved people who were infected in Indonesia, two who were infected in the Maldives, and one who was infected in Thailand, Lee said.

The one indigenous case involved a woman in her 20s living in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, Lee said.

Of the 163 confirmed domestic dengue fever cases reported this year to date, 134 cases were in Kaohsiung, 19 were in Tainan, nine were in Pingtung County, and one was in Chiayi County. Only two of the cases were severe, according to CDC statistics.

A total of 70 imported cases have been recorded so far this year, the highest for the same period since 2020, with 33 cases originating in Indonesia and 16 in Malaysia.​..

TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Tainan City Government's Public Health Bureau reported on Wednesday (July 17) the city's 11th imported dengue fever case this year. Officials confirmed the patient had traveled to Malaysia in early July and is currently receiving treatment.

The patient, who resides in Xinying District, traveled with their family to Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur from July 7 to 9 to purchase goods. Symptoms, including fever, joint pain, and headache, appeared on July 14. The patient self-medicated with antipyretics before seeking medical attention on July 16, with subsequent hospital tests confirming dengue fever type 4...

Taipei dengue case linked to New Taipei City cluster

The first local case of dengue fever reported in Taipei on Thursday was linked to a cluster of cases in New Taipei City, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said yesterday as it reminded people to wear protective clothing while cleaning up flooding and to remove standing water.

The Taipei Department of Health said that the first local dengue case in the city was a man in his 70s who was living in Wenshan District (文山), and that the man did not visit another country or New Taipei City recently, so the source of infection is unknown.​..

...The Taipei Department of Health and the CDC’s mobile task force sent inspectors to the farm, who found mosquito breeding sources on-site, Lo said, adding that the health department conducted a cleanup, sprayed insecticide and put up a “dengue high-risk area” sign at the entrance.

“A total of 62 local dengue cases have been reported from late last month to yesterday, and they were all determined to be from the same cluster in Jhonghe and Sindian districts,” Lo said, adding that they all had dengue virus serotype 2.

No severe illnesses or deaths have occurred so far.​...
