Tainan confirms first case of imported dengue fever this year

Taipei, Jan. 9 (CNA) Tainan in southern Taiwan reported its first case of imported dengue fever this year in a female patient who recently vacationed in Indonesia, the city's Public Health Bureau said Thursday.

The woman in her 20s, who visited the Southeast Asian country from Dec. 21-27, was found to have been infected with the dengue virus type 4 (DENV-4) strain and is still being treated for the illness, the bureau said...

...The CDC has reported 10 imported dengue cases of dengue fever in Taiwan this year, 3 in Taipei, 2 in Kaohsiung, 2 in New Taipei, and one each in Taoyuan, Changhua County and Tainan.

There have been no reported cases of indigenous cases of dengue fever so far this year, according to CDC statistics.

Taipei, July 21 (CNA) A Taoyuan City man has been confirmed as Taiwan's first locally acquired case of dengue fever this year, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Tuesday.

The patient, who is in his 30s, sought treatment four times from July 15-19 after developing symptoms of the mosquito-borne disease, including a fever and skin rash, the CDC said in a press release.

After the man tested positive for the virus on Monday, his results were reported to the CDC, which confirmed on Tuesday that he had been infected with dengue virus type 1, the statement said...

...Aside from Tuesday's case, Taiwan has reported 56 imported cases of dengue fever this year, the majority of which came from Southeast Asia and occurred in January-March, before the government's imposition of COVID-19-related travel restrictions, the CDC said...

Taiwan reports 8 new dengue fever cases in farm cluster

Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Saturday confirmed eight new cases of indigenous dengue fever, believed to be part of a cluster infection associated with a bamboo shoot farm in New Taipei's Sanxia District.

The eight patients -- seven men and one women aged 40 to 70 years old -- developed symptoms of fever, headache, joint pain and a rash between Sept. 17-30, and have all been to Wuliao Village recently, where the farm is located.

Seven are from New Taipei while one lives in Taoyuan City, the CDC said...

...So far this year, Taiwan has reported 54 indigenous dengue fever cases, 34 in New Taipei and 20 in Taoyuan, while the total number of imported cases stands at 59, mainly from Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, CDC data shows.
