Taiwan confirms first two cases of imported measles this year

Taipei, Jan. 16 (CNA) Two imported cases of measles have been confirmed in Taiwan, the first in the country this year, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Wednesday.

The two people tested positive for measles on Wednesday after returning from trips to Vietnam and the Philippines, respectively, the CDC said in a statement.

The two men, both from northern Taiwan, started experiencing symptoms of measles on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, respectively, and broke out in a rash on Jan. 11, the CDC said.

As of press time Wednesday, one man was at home resting, while the other was still undergoing treatment at a hospital, the CDC said.

In an interview Wednesday, CDC Deputy Director General Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said one of the men had contact with 118 people, some of whom were at his company's year-end banquet at a restaurant in Zhongli District in Taoyuan on Jan. 12...

Four new measles cases reported in Taiwan

Taipei, March 4 (CNA) Four new measles cases have been reported in Taiwan, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Monday, and it warned that some of the patients visited airports and public places during the period of communicability.

Of the four, three were imported cases and one was a domestic case, CDC Deputy Director-General Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said in a statement Monday.

One of the imported cases involved a 7-month-old infant who was in Japan from Jan. 27 to Feb. 24.

The child, who was born in Japan but raised in Taiwan, went with his parents to Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture to visit relatives but was flagged down by screening officers upon his return to Taipei Songshan Airport because of a fever...

Nurses infected in measles cases

The Centers for Disease Control yesterday confirmed three new measles cases associated with a cluster at a hospital in central Taiwan, bringing the total to eight.

The three new cases were all female nurses in their 20s who worked at the hospital and had direct contact with another nurse in her 40s who worked at the hospital, the centers said.

The nurse in her 40s was diagnosed with measles on March 28, it said.

Although the three nurses had received measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccinations on March 30 or Monday last week, they began showing symptoms on Friday and Saturday last week, and developed rashes from Saturday to Monday, the centers said.

Tests showed that the strain with which they were infected matched the virus from a cluster of cases at the hospital, the centers said.

Of the eight people affected so far, five are nurses, it said, adding that emergency measures, including temporary suspension of patient registration and fever management at the hospital?s emergency department, had been implemented...

New case of measles reported in Taiwan

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Thursday confirmed one new case of measles in Taiwan, saying the patient had contracted the infection at a hospital.

The 7-month-old boy was at the emergency room of a hospital in central June 8-9, at the same time as a 1-year-old girl who had measles, the CDC said.

The boy was taken back to the hospital Thursday after he developed a rash on June 21, and follow-up tests confirmed that he was infected with the same strain of measles as the girl, the CDC said.

The girl is believed to have contracted measles during a visit to Vietnam in March, according to the CDC.

So far, 510 people who had contact with the two children have been identified and will be monitored by health authorities through July 15, the CDC said said...

Measles case reported; source of infection could be airport

Taipei, July 29 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has confirmed a new measles case in Taiwan but said it is still searching for the source of the infection because the patient works at Taoyuan International Airport and had not traveled abroad in the past month.

A man at his 20s was confirmed to be infected with the measles Sunday, CDC Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said, noting that the patient developed a fever on July 21 but did not see a doctor until a rash broke out on his face, chest and hands on July 24.

The case was reported to health authorities that day, and tissue samples were sent for laboratory testing. Two days later, the test results came back positive for measles, which led to Sunday's confirmation, according to the CDC.

The patient, who is currently in isolation at home, is a member of China Airlines' ground crew at the Taoyuan airport, where he worked at the airline's check-in counter and airport lounge in Terminals 1 and 2 on July 20, 22 and 23 before developing more severe symptoms, Chuang said...

Woman in Taiwan hospital measles outbreak took several trips on Taipei MRT
Fellow passengers should monitor their health for 18 days: CDC

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) ? A young woman who is the 10th case in an outbreak of measles at Taipei?s Cathay General Hospital took at least four trips on the capital?s Mass Rapid Transit system, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Tuesday (September 3).

A total of 361 people would remain under observation at least until September 20, officials said.

The 10th case in the outbreak, a woman in her twenties, had traveled on the MRT?s Bannan or Blue Line between home and work at least four times. On August 25, she boarded a train from the Zhongxiao Dunhua station to Haishan station in the New Taipei City district of Banqiao around 7:30 p.m., the CDC said.

On August 28, she took the train in the opposite direction at 6 p.m., while on August 29, she traveled from Zhongxiao Dunhua to Haishan at 7:30 a.m. and back to Zhongxiao Dunhua at 6 p.m...
